Role of Shifa School of Computing for Industry-Academia Linkage 

Islamabad, February 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University remained instrumental in providing quality education in medicine, pharmacy, Nursing, and Allied Health Science in the last decade. Shifa graduates are considered assets for their employers and doing wonders in industry and academia. To continue this tremendous success, the university has launched “Shifa School of Computing (SSC)” to impart quality education in Computer Science (CS) as well.

One of the renowned academicians and researchers in CS, Prof. Dr. Tanvir Afzal has joined Shifa School of Computing as Director and has engaged international and national CS stakeholders in an event organized on 10th February 2022. Mr. Andrew Ko., Chief Global Business Operation, Bitnine Co., Ltd was the chief guest from South Korea. They are running a specialized Database company and planning to launch a new office in Pakistan. Therefore, all senior management of Computer Science from the twin cities was invited to the event to establish academia-industry linkage.

Three events were organized in this ceremony as (1) MoU was signed between Bitnine Co., Ltd and Shifa School of Computing in which it was emphasized to establish strong cooperation in the field of Databases in future. (2) Second event was a discussion session with the students. Mr. Andrew and Mr. Ibrar provided mentorship to CS students.

They discussed the industry trends and acknowledged the availability of their technical mentorship for the students in future too. (3) Third event was a session with the senior management of all major universities of twin cities. Mr. Andrew had presented his product Graphizer i.e., a Graph-based database system implemented in PostgresSQL. This seminar has opened many avenues for future cooperation between Bitnine and the local academia through the platform provided by the Shifa School of Computing. Participants were served with lavish Hi-teas and lunch.

Director Shifa School of Computing, Prof. Dr. Tanvir Afzal enlightened the guests about the vision of Shifa School of Computing i.e., to produce state-of-the-art IT individuals who could serve the national and international industry with great skillset. All Deans and HoDs warmly welcomed the Shifa School of Computing and acknowledged their support for this school to uplift the standard of Computer Science education in Pakistan.
