Awareness session on Intellectual Property Rights 

Lahore, December 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):University of Central Punjab (UCP) organized an awareness session on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) from the platform of ORIC with the collaboration of Faculty of Life Sciences and Department of Food Sciences on 23 December. Mr. Muhammad Ismail, Director IPO Pakistan was invited as a key note speaker.

The session entailed a welcome note by the Pro-Rector UCP, Dr. Nassar Ikram, who emphasized on the importance of IP and focus of the UCP leadership in developing the IP Protection culture. During the detailed presentation given by Mr. Ismail (Director IPO), it was discussed how inventors can benefit from protecting their IPs and what are the royalty channels that follow afterwards. Moreover, some real-world IP case studies were also discussed.

In direct relevance to UCP’s efforts to increase its pool of IPs, certificates were also distributed amongst the winning teams of the Food Product Development competition which was recently organized by the Faculty of Life Sciences under the Department of Food Sciences. As a result of this competition 50 potential IPs have also been identified. The session concluded on a short networking between the delegate from IPO and faculty members.

GIK Institute Alumni become a huge source of inspiration: Rector Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid 

Swabi, December 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):The alumni of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, who came from about 70 different countries, have stressed the need for academia-industry linkages and result-oriented research activities for the development of the country. The alumni, who reached their alma mater from across the globe, unanimously vowed to play their due role in further strengthening the environment for imparting contemporary knowledge to the youngsters.

Shakil Durrani Executive Director of Society for the Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Pakistan (SOPREST) was chief guest on the occasion. Taimur Saleem Jhagra, provincial finance and health minister, a member of GIK Institute Alumni Association also attended the gathering. Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid, SI, Rector GIK Institute, Sardar Aminullah Khan, Pro-Rector Admin and Finance, Prof Dr Wasim A Khan, Pro-Rector Academics, deans, students of various disciplines, directors and other staff attended the event. The alumni paid tributes to founder of the GIK Institute, late Ghulam Ishaq Khan, the former President of Pakistan.

The Institute has made great efforts to make alumni homecoming comfortable and the academia and staff extended a warm welcome to them. The gathering provided them an opportunity to reunite, catch up with their old friends, refresh the sweet memories of the student life and have a glimpse of their alma mater.

“GIK Institute has really transferred my personality and really helped me in professional learning,” said Hina Gohar who completed her PhD from abroad. During interaction with the faculty, their visit to respective faculties and speaking at various seminars they vowed to straighten their interaction and relationship with GIK Institute.

Junaid Kalim, president of GIK Institute Alumni Association said, “GIK Institute has a strong desire to give great value to their mother Institution and play our due role in making it stronger.” He said the alumni provided Rs27 million as scholarship to the students in the current year. The total scholarships were awarded to 55 students. “We provide need-based scholarships on merit to the GIK Institute students,” he said. “We strive to increase the scholarship to Rs30 million in the next year.

“We are true representatives of our alma mater. We would strive to use our expertise, experience and status to further boost the rank of the Institute in the field of engineering sciences and management science,” said Muhammad Usman, who came from Mexico.

Speaking on the occasion Shakil Durrani said there were 200 universities in Pakistan and GIK Institute was known as a centre of excellence, enjoying a unique place in the landscape of higher education. Taimur Jhagra said, “The universities have to play a massive role in the development of the country. The GIK Institute has produced outstanding graduates.”

Prof Khalid said that the alumni visit has “become a huge source of inspiration” and strength for the Institute. The Institute has so far produced 6800 BS, 500 MS and over 75 PhD graduates. “You (alumni) are stars of our Institute. You are a great asset we strive to strengthen,” he said.

DCW and Faculty of Arabic hold Training Workshop on Teaching Skills for Women 

Islamabad, December 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):Dawah Center for Women (DCW) of Dawah Academy and Faculty of Arabic (FA) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a one-day training workshop for improving teaching skills and Arabic Language training for teachers.

Dean of the Faculty of Arabic, Dr. Fazlullah, congratulated the workshop and appreciated Dawah Center for Women of Dawah Academy and Arabic Department of Faculty of Arabic for conducting the training workshop for enhancing the teaching skills of women. He highlighted the importance of learning of Arabic Language for all Muslims. He added that teachers have a great responsibility to transfer the knowledge with honesty.

Dr. Faryal Ambreen of DCW briefly highlighted the key role of Dawah Center for Women in conducting the workshop. She also spoke on the need and importance of this workshop. She appreciated the support and cooperation of the Arabic Department for jointly conducting this workshop and briefed about the objectives of the workshop.

Dr. Alia Akram, Chairperson Arabic Department briefed about the objectives of the workshop and explained how important it is for teachers to know and understand Arabic language. Dr. Alia also highlighted the semantic and literal beauty and analysis of the Arabic language. She added that the purpose of this workshop is to enhance teaching skills and learning of Arabic language.

Dr. Susaan, Professor of Arabic from Al-Azhar University in Egypt who is presently providing services at IIUI urged the participants to acquire and enhance the teaching Arabic language skills. She also stressed that if we want to understand the Arabic language, it is very important to understand its history, words etymologies. Dr. Fauzia Mir Taj in her speech highlighted the importance and usefulness of Arabic language and said that mastering the Arabic language is a necessity of the time.

Dr. Summaya Chughtai Student Advisor (Female Campus) also attended the workshop and lauded the role of DCW and termed the workshop jointly organized by Dawa Center for Women and Arabic Department as a very useful component for teachers and stressed on the need to hold more workshops like this. At the end of the program, the participants were given the Holy Quran as a gift and certificates of participation were also distributed among them.

This one-day workshop for improving teaching skills for women was attended by 35 participants from the Arabic Department of Faculty of Arabic and teachers of Ahad Foundation and Ghazali Education Trust.
