Seminar on Integrity, Sustainability and Future Prospective of Olive in Pakistan 

Chitral, December 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Directorate of ORIC University of Chitral organized a one-day National seminar with the theme “INTEGRITY, SUSTAINABILITY AND FUTURE PROSPECTIVE OF OLIVE IN PAKISTAN” in collaboration with Pakistan oilseed Department. Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah, Vice-Chancellor University of Chitral was Chief Guest of the program. Dr. Roman, Deputy Director ORIC was also present on the occasion.

After recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, Dr. Khair Muhammad, Managing Director, Pakistan Oilseed Department welcomed the guests. He said that Olive plantation is growing at a fast pace in Pakistan. Environmental conditions in Pakistan are favourable for Olive plantation. Chitral is one of the few districts in KP which has the potential to become a hub of olive plantation. He also announced internship program for Botany students of the University of Chitral in Pakistan Oilseed Department.

Eminent Scientists from different provinces of Pakistan presented their research papers on Olive plantation in Pakistan. Dr. Muhammad Ramzan Anser, Agronomist, Centre of Excellence for Olive Research and Training Barani Agriculture Research institute Chakwal presented his research paper on integrated Olive promotion and value chain development model in Pakistan. He said that his department is working for the promotion and value chain development of Olive in Pakistan.

A detailed presentation was given by Mr. Inam Ul Haq, Project Incharge Balochistan component on the current scenario of Olive cultivation in Baluchistan province. Dr. Syed Asghar, Project Incharge ARI Tarnab Peshawar, shared history and current status of olive cultivation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the audience. He mentioned that 30 acres of land has also been cultivated to Olive in Chitral.

Dr. Muhammad Azhar Iqbal, Horticulturist, Centre of Excellence for Olive Research and Training Barani Agriculture Research Institute Chakwal presented his paper on successful Olive cultivation in relation to varietal selection and production technology in Pothwar Agro-climatic conditions of Pakistan.

Mr. Nadeem Sadiq, Director General, Balochistan Agriculture Research Institute presented his research paper on Sustainability and future prospects of Olive cultivation in Balochistan. Dr. Azmat Ali Awan, Deputy National Project Director Pakistan Oilseed Department gave a detailed presentation on Olive sector in Pakistan. Students, faculty members, representatives from forest department, Agriculture Research Station Chitral, Agriculture Extension Department Chitral, and Soil Conservation Department Chitral also participated in the conference.

In his concluding remarks, Vice-Chancellor University of Chitral Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah said that he wants to see the barren land of Chitral covered with Olive plants. He said that Chitral environment is very conducive for olive cultivation. Soil conditions in Chitral are also favourable for olive plantation. He further said the Olive oil is useful for treatment of various diseases like cancer and heart. At the end of the program, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the guests for their participation and precious time. He also distributed shields and certificates among the participants. The Vice-Chancellor announced to allocated ten acres of Land for Olive plantation and for establishment of Botanical Garden with the support of Oilseed Department.

Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pays a rich tribute to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto

Karachi, December 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari paid a rich tribute to the first elected Prime Minister of the Islamic world and party chairperson Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and said that Benazir Bhutto is a beacon of a movement. The nation will never forget her national spirit, long struggle and strong leadership.

According to a statement issued by the Media Cell Bilawal House, the Chairman PPP in his message on the 14th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto further said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was an ideal world leader who showed great courage in her mission to achieve democracy in Pakistan. Her struggle to make the country a true welfare state in the light of the thoughts and vision of our founding ancestors is historical.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the assassination of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in Rawalpindi was not just the murder of a dream to save the people from poverty, unemployment and injustice, but a conspiracy to kill the entire nation. He pointed out that the heinous conspiracy was foiled by former President Asif Ali Zardari with the slogan “Pakistan Khappay”.

The PPP Chairman said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was a universal figure and a people’s leader who promoted unity, harmony and progressive thinking in Pakistan and protected the political and economic rights of the people. As the Prime Minister, she introduced people-friendly policies in the country despite fierce opposition and obstacles. She took innumerable steps for the service of the public, and also highlighted the true image of Pakistan on an international level. The gift of missile technology for the defense of our motherland by the first elected Prime Minister of the Islamic world, is also unforgettable.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that for democracy, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto lost her father, two brothers and even her mother. But she never feared the dictators. She kept fighting for democracy till the last hour of her life and in the end, achieved martyrdom.

Chairman PPP said that today is the day to make a pledge to eradicate terrorism and extremism from Pakistan, and to continue the struggle of strengthening democracy, supremacy of the Constitution and Parliament, and social equality. There can be no other way to pay homage to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

President Asif Ali Zardari’s message on Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s martyrdom anniversary 

Karachi, December 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Former President of Pakistan and President Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians, Asif Ali Zardari paid glowing tributes to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto on her martyrdom anniversary. He reiterated his resolve of continuing the struggle to rid the country from poverty, financial instability and unemployment.

President Zardari said that the country is dearer to us than our lives. We will not compromise on its freedom, dignity and respect. He said that today, the country is going through a dangerous situation, the economy, foreign affairs and law are all going through turmoil. He said that it pains him to see that the poor are suffering and have been deprived of the fruits of democracy.

Asif Ali Zardari said that since 2013, there have been constant attacks on the authority, honour and dignity of the parliament, and PPP has been resisting them. He said that the leadership of PPP saved and rebuilt the country after devastation in the past, and will do the same now. Patience and endurance are not our weaknesses but our principles. He said that we will not let Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s great sacrifice go in vain.

The Queens’s Baton of Birmingham 2022 commonwealth games arrives in Pakistan

Lahore, December 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):CGA Pakistan held a media briefing here today (26 December, 2021) regarding programme of Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay in Pakistan. Lt. Gen (R) Syed Arif Hasan, President CGA Pakistan and Mr. Martin Dawson, British Acting Deputy High Commissioner were present at the occasion.

The briefing was attended by number of journalists of media groups and electronic channels. Besides officials of Sindh Olympic Association (the provincial chapter of CGA Pakistan), the Presidents and Secretaries of various National Sports Federations were also present in the briefing.

The media was informed that the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton has arrived in Pakistan, reaching the 23rd destination out of the 72 Commonwealth nations and territories. The Queen’s Baton, which carries a message from Her Majesty The Queen, arrived in Pakistan as part of its journey for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, which will be held in England from 28 July until 8 August 2022.

The Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay started at Buckingham Palace on 7 October 2021, when Her Majesty The Queen placed her Message to the Commonwealth into the Baton and passed it to four-time Paralympic gold medallist and Team England athlete Kadeena Cox, who had the honour of being the first of thousands of Batonbearers to carry the Baton through the Commonwealth.

The 16th official Queen’s Baton Relay is an epic journey covering the entirety of the Commonwealth as it will travel to all 72 nations and territories, covering a distance of 140,000 kilometres. For 269 days, the Baton will travel to Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, the Caribbean and the Americas, before it embarks on the final stretch of its journey across England for 25 days.

The Queen’s Baton Relay will complete its journey at the Opening Ceremony of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on 28 July 2022. This is a traditional and fundamental part of the Games and the Opening Ceremony, as the final Batonbearer will pass the Baton back to The Queen. The Queen’s message to the Commonwealth will then be removed from the Baton and read aloud, marking the official start of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The Queen’s Baton is in Pakistan for 03 days and during it’s time here, it will be carried by Batonbearers, including current and legacy athletes including M/s. Jahangir Khan, World Championship (Squash Legend), Hassan Sardar and Rasheed ul Hassan (Hockey World Champion and Olympian). The baton will be also carried by M/s Muhammad Inam, World Beach Wrestling Championship, Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist as well as Olympian Arshad Nadeem, Talha Talib, Commonwealth Medallist and Mahoor Shahzad.

A welcome ceremony will be held at British Deputy High Commission, Karachi premises on 27 December, 2021 at 1430 hours to formally handover the Baton to President CGA Pakistan by the Deputy High Commissioner, UK. The Baton will also visit at the following places:

Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) on 28 December 2021

A ceremony will be arranged on 28 December, 2021 at 0930 hours where the students and the athletes of the SMIU will exchange and relay the Baton. The Baton will also visit to the “Jinnah Museum” followed by plantation at the University premises.

The celebrations of the Queen’s Baton at the Sindh Madressatul Islam are arranged being School of founding father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The Quaid was the one who elevated SMI from the status of a school to a college in 1943. On that eve, he bequeathed/donated his one-third property to SMI and reminisced his time spent at SMI as a student between 1887 and 1892.

Visit to Mazar-e-Quaid – Tuesday 28 December 2021

The Baton will visit Mazar-e-Quaid on 28 December, 2021 at 1330 hours where the international medallists, athletes, youngsters and officials of the various sports associations will exchange and relay the Baton. The celebration at Mazar-e-Quaid is significant being resting place of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah and a symbol of the city of Karachi. The mausoleum complex also has a tomb of ‘Mother of the Nation’ Fatima Jinnah (Quaid e Azam’s sister), and also the graves of first Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan.

Visit of Karachi Grammar School, Karachi – Wednesday 29 December 2021

A ceremony will be arranged on 29 December, 2021 at 1000 hours where the International Medallists, students and the athletes of the KGS will exchange and relay the Baton.

Karachi Grammar School is the oldest private school of Pakistan carrying a heritage of over 170 years starting 1847. The school was formally constituted by Sir Henry Bartle Frere as the Karachi European and Indo-European school. It was named Karachi Grammar School in 1879.

Visit of Maulana Muhammad Ali Johar Park (Kakri Ground) – Wednesday 29 December 2021

The Baton will visit Kakri Ground on 29 December 2021 where the youngsters, athletes and community
representatives will exchange and relay the Baton.

The venue has been selected due to its unique culture and to celebrate the Baton with the promising community having a long history of producing world class athletes. In fact this event is a humble effort of CGA Pakistan to recognized the contribution of Olympian and international medallist of the Asia and Commonwealth including Mr. Husain Shah and many others.

President CGA Pakistan, Lt Gen Syed Arif Hasan HI(M) (Retd) said: “It is fantastic to have the Baton arrive in Pakistan today. Its arrival signifies an exciting moment in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, and I’m really looking forward to the various visits and activities during its time here.”

Acting Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Martin Dawson expressed “we are very happy that Queen Baton has arrived at Karachi. The participation of youth, athletes and community in the celebration of Queens Baton in Karachi in encouraging and we are satisfied that arrangements made by the CGA Pakistan and Sindh Government will make this event a memorable one. The T-Shirts of Batonbearers and organizers were also unveiled on the occasion.

ICC expresses sadness at the passing of Ray Illingworth

Dubai, December 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):The International Cricket Council has expressed grief at the passing of former England captain Ray Illingworth at the age of 89. Born in Pudsey, Yorkshire, the off-spinning all-rounder, started his first-class career in 1951 at the age of 19. Illingworth represented England from 1958 to 1973, playing 61 Tests, scoring 1836 runs and picking 122 wickets. He captained England to a famous 2-0 Ashes victory in 1970/71.

He had a tremendous first-class career, accumulating 24,134 runs and taking 2072 wickets. He also led Yorkshire to three consecutive County Championship wins from 1966 to 1968.

ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said: “Ray Illingworth was a giant of English cricket and was one of England’s finest captains. He made an enormous contribution to the game, not just as England’s captain, but also as coach and chairman of selectors. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

After retirement, Illingworth turned to broadcast and was a part of BBC’s television coverage. He also served as England’s coach in 1995/96 and was the chairman of selectors between 1994 and 1996.
