MoU signed between University of Education and Women Development Department, Punjab

Lahore, December 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between University of Education, Lahore and Women Development Department, Government of Punjab for the establishment of Women Development Centre at UE Township Campus. According to the signed MoU, Women Development Department, Government of Punjab shall provide financial grant, furniture, equipment and essential machinery for the establishment of Women Development Center. The Provincial Department will also prepare plan for improvement of the Center and develop mechanism for future collaboration.

On the other hand, University of Education, Lahore is responsible for providing a suitable place for establishment of the Center. The University will also appoint in-charge and other human resource required to run the day to day operations of Centre. It will operate and maintain Centre and its expense on self- supporting basis. Secretary Women Development Department, Government of Punjab, Ms. Ambreen Raza and Vice Chancellor, University of Education, Lahore Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.) signed the MoU on the behalf of their respective institutions.

TUF Signs MoU with ICMA Pakistan 

Faisalabad, December 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):The University of Faisalabad (TUF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Institute of Cost and Management Accountants (ICMA) of Pakistan. The ceremony held at Serena Hotel Faisalabad on December 21, 2021. Mr Zia ul Mustafa Awan, President ICMA Pakistan and Dr Sohail Jabbar, Director ORIC from The University of Faisalabad signed the agreement.

The purpose of this MoU is to develop academic and educational cooperation on the basis of equality and reciprocity and to promote relations and mutual understanding between both institutions. Both the institutions agreed to cooperate in their mutual interest for a range of higher education, research and development activities particularly in Accounting, Finance and Management Studies programs. Both institutions will jointly work on alignment of curriculum of their offered programs, joint conferences, workshops, management trainee programs, internship opportunities, on-campus job and career fairs and placement of their graduates in industry and academia.

TUF delegate including Dr Arshia Hashmi, Head Department of Management Studies, Dr Amna Javed, Manager International Linkages, Dr Imran Ahmed Shahzad, Manager BIC and Mr Omer Farooq Qureshi, Manager Placement Bureau held the meeting with Mr Abdul Shakoor, Chairman FBC, Mr Tanveer Sajid Bajwa, Chairman Research and Publication and Mr Shahid Irshad, Chairman CPD, FBC from ICMA and also witnessed the ceremony. Management of TUF and ICMA declared this agreement very beneficial for students as well as faculty members of both the institutions.

Student intervarsity competition BRAINIAC’21 goes on campus amid ease in COVID restrictions 

Lahore, December 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):Under the banner of the International Conference on Open-Source Systems and Technologies (ICOSST) 2021, a student competition “BRAINIAC’21” was organized by Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), UET Lahore with co-sponsorship of IEEE ComSoc Lahore Chapter on 14-16 December 2021. This was the first on-campus event after COVID19 where students from various universities of the country participated zealously.

BRAINIAC is a national technical competition that provides opportunities for students to enhance and showcase their technical skills through a country-wide competition and win attractive cash prizes. The 3-day competition comprises different modules including project video, full-stack functional website, code champ, circuit genie, math gauge, and league of your own (gaming competition) in which students unleashed their technical skills and cherished a healthy competitive environment with the cash prizes of Rs. 1 Lac.

Around 180 participants from the universities including the University of Lahore, Information Technology University, FAST National University, Punjab University College of Information and Technology, and other campuses of the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore participated in the competition. The judges’ panel consisted of Dr. Ubaid Ullah, Dr. Umar Tabraiz Shami, Mr. Salman Fakhar, Mr. Umer Shahid, Mr. Muzammil Hassan, Mr. Rehan Naeem from the faculty of the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore.

On the last day of the module ‘league of your own, there was an elimination-based surprise game competition for the finalists that was revealed a day before. In this module the competition of a very famous console game, Tekken-7 was conducted.

The winners of all the modules were announced at the closing ceremony of the 15th International Conference on Open-Source Systems and Technologies (ICOSST) 2021. “The technical competitions foster the mindset that allows creativity to grow”, said Vice Chancellor UET Lahore, Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar while speaking at the closing ceremony. Worthy Vice-Chancellor UET along with Director Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood distributed the cash prizes of Rs. 100,000 amongst the winners. The event came to an end with a group photo of participants and the organizers of BRAINIAC’21 with distinguished guests.

Congratulations to all the trainees enrolled at NTU, Faisalabad for the next batch of the NFTP

Faisalabad, December 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):After an extensive registration and verification process, an orientation session was held recently to encourage candidates for their upcoming training and help them adapt to training. Dr. Asif Habib Chairman Computer Sciences Department NTU welcomed the students for the beginning of this training and asked them to fully concentrate on this 3-month training if they are to utilize this top-notch freelance training program to its limits, he stated that he expects the students to take maximum advantage of this training in order to shape their own and this country’s future.

Dr. Shahzad Arshad Focal person NFTP at NTU welcomed the attendees of this session and also praised the innovativeness Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication have brought together for the youth of the country for the benefit of everyone involved.

Team NFTP was represented by Mr. Zulfiqar Jahangir, Mr. Amjad Ali and NFTP Master Trainer Mr. Inam-ul-Haq as they briefed the students about the whole program, its objectives, and remaining details about the National Freelance Training Program. The students were also allowed to interact with their Trainers during this session, which gave them a chance to get more insight into their upcoming training and understand what their training will be offering. We hope to see plenty of success stories emerge from Faisalabad, Punjab.

Cabinet of Green Youth Movement Club takes oath at IIUI 

Islamabad, December 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):The cabinet of Green Youth Movement Club of International Islamic University (IIU) took oath in the inauguration ceremony of the movement held at the Faisal Masjid Campus of the university. The cabinet consists of the thematic leaders for water conservation, plantation, energy conservation, cleanliness and waste management and ecotourism, while office bearers of the cabinet shall hold positions of President, Vice President, Joint Secretary, Finance Secretary and Media Secretary.

The inauguration ceremony of the movement was addressed by Deputy Chairman Senate, Mira Muhammad Afridi who called for maximum and active participation of youth for the protection of environment. He said volunteer work for the betterment of planet will be fruitful for the present and coming generations. He stressed upon the students to be part of the government’s initiative of the environment and climate protection and play active role in the cause.

Speaking as the guest of Honour, Senator Fawzia Arshad said that presence of hundreds of female students in the ceremony is omen of success of this drive as women’s role is vital in protection of environment. She said our nation like many others is facing the challenge of pollution and it is the youth of this country that can help us out to handle this challenge. She said HEC’s special assistance of around 140 universities for this initiative is an appreciable step. She also assured that houses of the parliament will be available to support the ideas and initiatives of youth for protection of environment.

Dr. Ayaz Afsar, Vice President Academics of the university said that it is encouraging to witness government’s initiative for the protection of planet and environment through youth. He stressed for collective actions for renewable energy and its sustainable consumption. He said that humans must take care of their living style to save the nature. “We need to build a cleaner and greener future together” he said.

In his welcome speech, Dr. Muhammad Irfan, Den Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences said that we will have to learn the art of living with nature that is all about preserving the environment and being responsible for the environment protection in the light f teachings of Islam. He said Islam is a staunch supporter of environment protection and it is out religious and social obligation to take care of our natural resources and climate. He also shed light in detail on the sustainable development in the perspective of environment. He also discussed journey of Faculty and its initiatives for the green and clean Pakistan.

Dr. Summiya Chughtai, Students Advisor female, in her address shared the objectives of the launch of the initiative at the university and appreciated the team work especially by Sarah Amir, lecturer at the department of environmental science and the focal person for this initiative. The event was organized by Department of Environmental Science, female campus of IIU, Students Advisor office of the female campus as part of initiative of Higher Education Commission in collaboration with Kamyab Jawan Program.

1st International Conference on Microwave, Antennas and Circuits (ICMAC 2021) held at NUST 

Islamabad, December 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):The First International Conference on Microwave, Antennas and Circuits (ICMAC 2021) was held at NUST, Islamabad on Dec 21-22. 2021. The conference was organized by NUST Research Institute of Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Studies (RIMMS) and the National Institute of Electronics (NIE) Islamabad.

The closing ceremony was graced by the President of Pakistan, His Excellency Dr Arif Alvi. He appreciated the efforts of NUST in taking a lead role in specialized areas of Chip Design and Radio-Frequency Technologies. He asserted that the unprecedented growth in global markets of cellular phones, IoT, Defense Electronics and Industry 4.0 necessitates the need of developing trained human resources that could contribute to meeting the domestic requirements of the country.

Citing the US-China trade war revolving around semiconductors, the president emphasized the need to develop the end-to-end eco-system for ensuring the nation’s digital sovereignty and attaining a share in the burgeoning 500 billion dollar semiconductor market. He commended the efforts of NUST-RIMMS for their strenuous efforts in arranging the conference and bringing together world-renowned professors, academicians, and researchers on a single platform.

Rector NUST, Engr Javed Mahmood Bukhari, in his address, highlighted the importance of conferences as an avenue for academic and scientific discourse. Furthermore, he added that such platforms are essential for bridging the gap between industry-academia collaborations. He mentioned that NUST has always focused on specialized scientific fields that provide indigenous solutions for local technology requirements and save foreign exchequer. He also shared the efforts underway to promote chip design R and D at NUST, including the introduction of focused academic programs, research on digital and analog ICs and the plans for a fabless chip design centre at NUST premises.

The conference general chair and Principal RIMMS, Dr Hammad M. Cheema, while presenting the conference summary, informed that more than 120 research papers from 22 countries were submitted to the conference covering the domains of antennas, microwave components, IC design and others. He emphasized the need for a national-level policy discourse to set the direction of the chip design eco-system in Pakistan. Being the first-ever conference to be held on these specialized topics in Pakistan, Dr Cheema lauded the excellent participation of over 600 students, researchers and industry representatives from the public and private sector.

ICMAC 2021 included keynote talks by renowned International Researchers of the field, including Professor Ke Wu from the University of Montreal Canada, Professor Behzad Razavi and Professor Mona Jarrahi from the University of California Los Angeles USA and Professor Tie Jun from Southeast University China. Professor Atif Shamim from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia delivered the inaugural talk.

A panel discussion was also organized on “Challenges and opportunities in Radio Frequency (RF) and Integrated Circuit (IC) Design in Pakistan,” along with an industrial exhibit by the leading OEMs and private companies. The conference included a talk on Active Electronically Steered Array (AESA) Radar by Keysight technologies, who were also the conference’s platinum sponsor. A panel discussion on “Challenges and Opportunities for Women in Microwave Engineering and role of young professionals for the betterment of the community” was also conducted in which female professionals from four different countries shared their experiences.
