83rd Meeting of Syndicate held 

Khairpur, December 06, 2021 (PPI-OT):The 83rd Meeting of Syndicate of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur was held at Syndicate Hall of the University. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto Vice Chancellor presided over the meeting. At the outset of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto cordially welcomed the Learned and Honourable Members of the Syndicate. He apprised them that since joining as Vice Chancellor of this University, the University was facing immense financial crisis and confronting administrative and academic problems. It is recalled that the salaries and pension were not paid to the staff.

The salaries and pensions were paid in installments, even the staff observed strike on Eid Days at Press Club, Khairpur. He said at this juncture the salaries and pensions are being disbursed timely by taking assertive measures and with the transparent efforts. The funds received from Federal Government as well as Government of Sindh are properly managed. The system of admissions and examinations is made online.

Dr. Ibupoto said that Command and Control System has been established in order to beef up the security mechanism. The F.M Radio Station has been established. The tenders for automation of important sections have been floated in Press. The course of Social and Religious Tolerance in collaboration with Inter-University Consortium for the Promotion of Social Sciences (IUCPSS) has been introduced in the 8 Departments of Faculty of Social Sciences.

The Vice Chancellor commended the efforts of IUCPSS and USAID for the establishment of Students Societies Service Building. He remarked that one International Conference on Climate Change has been organized by the Department of Geography. Metrological Observatory has been established. Dr. Ibupoto briefed that the various committees for better governance and judicious decisions have been constituted.

The Vice Chancellor said that halted programs of M.S/M. Phil and Ph. D of 16 Disciplines have been restored. These program was in halt status by Higher Education Commission, Islamabad. The Members of Syndicate applauded the tangible efforts taken by the Vice Chancellor for the promotion of transparency, research and development at Campus. During the meeting, various important decisions were made.

The minutes of the 82nd Meeting of Syndicate were approved. The Annual Budget for the financial year 2021-22 of Rs. 2167.656 million with the deficit of Rs. 44.117 million was approved. The Budget was presented by the Director Finance Mr. Nisar Ahmed Noonari. The Annual Report 2018-19 and 2019-20 was also approved to be placed in the Senate. The approval for the appointment of various Directors and Chairmen was also accorded.

Prof. Dr. Noor Ahmed Shaikh appointed as Director Institute of Computer Science, Dr. Mujeeb ur Rehman appointed as Department of Media and Communication Studies, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Rahpoto appointed as Chairman Department of Economics, Prof. Dr. Amir Ahmed Khuhro appointed as Director Institute of I. R, Prof. Dr. A. D Jumani appointed as Chairman Department of Mathematics, Prof. Dr. Mushtaque Jakhrani appointed as Director Institute of Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Syed Zulfuqar Ali Shah appointed as Director Institute of English Language and Literature, Dr. Mumtaz Saand appointed as Chairman Department of Botany and Prof. Dr. Pir Bux Ghumro appointed as Director Institute of Microbiology.

The Syndicate approved the minutes of last meeting of Finance and Planning Committee. The seniority list of the officers from BPS-16 to BPS-20 was also approved in the light of the recommendations of Seniority Committee. The Syndicate recommended to appoint contractual lecturers. The minimum eligibility criteria and mechanism for appointment of lecturers will be sought from the well reputed Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and the same will be placed in the ensuing meeting of the Syndicate for approval.

The Syndicate took serious notice and high concern over the issuance of bogus admit slips to the students of various colleges in the Annual Examinations 2020 by University Officials Mr. Qalandar Bux Bozdar, Mr. Zubair Junejo, Mr. Aarab Phulpoto, Mr. Tufail Mangi, Mr. Abdul Basit Khilji and Mr. Sardar Rind and the Syndicate further recommended to dealt the issue as per E and D Rules and high-power Inquiry Committee was constituted in order to probe the matter. Meanwhile, on the recommendations of Inquiry Committee, the Syndicate decided to suspend these officials.

University of Wah hosts 6th Multi-Disciplinary Student Research International Conference 

Wah Cantt, December 06, 2021 (PPI-OT):University of Wah (UW) hosted its 6th Multi-Disciplinary Student Research International Conference (MDSRIC) from 30 November to 01 December, 2021 jointly sponsored by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and Pakistan Science Foundation. The key areas of the conference included Basic Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering Sciences and Social Sciences and Humanities. The Conference was attended by a galaxy of renowned national and international speakers including literary delegates from universities across Pakistan.

Prof Dr Shahid Mahmood Baig, Chairman, Pakistan Science Foundation, Islamabad graced the opening ceremony as chief guest. During the two days of the Conference, 72 papers along with an array of keynote speeches from eminent professors and academicians were presented.

Shan-e-Aqdas Naat and Qiraat Competition 

Rawalpindi, December 06, 2021 (PPI-OT):On Friday, October 15th, 2021 the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities arranged the event of Shan-e-Aqdas Naat and Qirat Competition under the guidance of Ms. Saira Javed (Lecturer – Clinical Psychology) at the National University of Medical Sciences, PWD Campus. Worthy Chief Guest Pro VC Academics Maj Gen Saleem Ahmed Khan (R) was invited as Chief guest. NUMS Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and Biological Sciences grace the event by their presence.

Ms. Warda Waheed and Ms. Maida Arif from Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences performed the duties of stage secretary. The sequence of the competition followed four Qirat and thirteen Naat participants from the Departments of Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, Psychology, and Public Health. The event was open to all the University personnels. Zoom link was also generated through which individuals celebrate the event together.

The event was organized to pay our respect to the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H.) during the holy month of Rabbi ul Awwal. It was tried to keep the event interactive as the audience was regularly requested to join the participants to recite Durood Sharif. A voluntary member from audience was also requested to recite something of their choice.

The participants’ performances were marked according to the criteria set by the judges that were discussed beforehand. Dr. Irum Monis (Judge for Naat Competition) from Quality Assurance Directorate and Mr. Waheed Rashid (Judge for Qiraat Competition) from Digital Technologies Directorate were requested to be the judges for the competitions. Ms. Afra Waleed from Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences got first position in Qiraat Competition and Mr. Abdullah Khan from Department of Public Health stood first in Naat Competition.

The participants were encouraged and awarded prizes from the honourable chief guest. The event was closed as the Dean Prof. Dr. Azam Choudhry thanked the Chief Guest for his presence and appreciated the participants and hosts of the events. On their way-out audience was served refreshments and the management team from Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences wrapped up the event setup.

Department of Zoology, University of Chitral organized a Webinar 

Chitral, December 06, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Webinar was organized in collaboration with Optimism Pakistan: An initiative by Interdisciplinary Centre for Conservation Science University of Oxford and Rewriting Extinction: a collaborative charity project, UK. Mr. Paul Goodenough, Emmy Award Winner a famous writer and producer was key speaker of the webinar.

Theme of the webinar was how to use simple comic stories to highlight environmental issues like climate change, deforestation, pollution and plastic waste. In the changing world environmental professionals and conservationists need new ways to communicate solutions and for outreach. It’s getting difficult to achieve expected outcomes by using media in the conventional and traditional approaches, therefore novel and unique ideas and models of communications are getting popularity to engage global and local audience. Rewriting extinction is on top of such models of communication where comics are used.

The webinar was attended by large number of students, faculty members and people from other institutions and organizations across Pakistan and from abroad also joined the event. Mr. Bilal Mustafa from Conservation Optimism Pakistan moderated the session. Following a brief presentation by Mr. Paul Goodenough the session was opened for discussion and questions answers.

Students of the Department of Zoology, University of Chitral participated in the interactive session with great enthusiasm. IoBM wins EFP Breakthrough Challenge 2021 

Karachi, December 06, 2021 (PPI-OT):Students of IoBM’s BS – Logistics and Supply Chain Management have won the EFP Breakthrough Challenge 2021. It was organized by the Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP). The students representing IoBM were Urooj Navid, Momina Abbas, Muhammad Kazim, and Asheeque Ali.

Other participating business schools were IBA, SZABIST, and Bahria University. IoBM defeated IBA by a margin of 0.8. IoBM’s faculty members who provided guidance and insights to the team were Mr. Fazal Anwer Khalidi, Ms. Juveria Baig, Mr. Afaq Ahmed Kazi, Mr. Junaid, Mr. Sardar Muhammad Nawaz.
