2nd International Qiraat Competition 

Faisalabad, November 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):NTU has continued its year’s long tradition of providing a platform to the local, national and international circuit by welcoming all to the “2nd International Qiraat Competition” on 25th of October, in which 25+ students of Universities from Pakistan and foreign countries participated. The event was presented by NTU Quran society and School of Arts and design NTU, for young people, who are interested in Quran recitation.

Honourable chief guest Prefacer Dr. Zafar Javed, Director School of Arts and Design NTU said in his welcome speech “The Quran, the last revealed word of God, is the primary source of every Muslim’s faith and practice. Dr. Muhammad Yaseen convener NTU Quran Society Directed the event.

Some very known names of Specialized in Qiraat were invited as adjudicators for the event including, Chief Judge Qari Adnan Sahid from Jamiya Amdadiya; Dr. Abu Elhardth from Egyptian University; Qari Abdul Qayyym Farrukh, Specialized in Qiraat Saba and Ashra, Imam and Teacher Jamia Salfia Faisalabad Panjab Pakistan. The event was in two steps:

1. In first step the competition was among the NTU students.

2. In second step International and national students were participated.

After careful compiling result by esteemed adjudicators, the following results were announced. More ever certificates are awarded to position holders and also to each participant.

CIPS Delegation visits EU institutions and NATO HQs in Brussels 

Islamabad, November 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Muhammad Makki, Assistant Professor at CIPS Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, attended an Exchange Visit Programme in ‎Brussels with EU institutions and NATO HQs from November 15 – 20, 2021. The visit was organised ‎by Hanns Seidel Foundation. The delegates had discussions with MEPs, senior NATO ‎officials, ‎think tanks on #Pakistan-EU ‎relations, focusing on non-traditional security challenges including climate ‎change, migration, cyber security, food security, digitisation, etc.

Various issues pertaining to ‎the NATO 2030 Agenda, including strategic vision towards non-traditional security, were ‎also discussed ‎during the‏ ‏meetings with senior NATO officials.‎ The delegation also met with the Pakistani Ambassador in Brussels, Ambassador ‎Zaheer Aslam Janjua and Counsellor Mr Raheel Tariq at the Pakistani Embassy in Brussels. Prof ‎Yamin particularly discussed the issues concerning EU DisinfoLab and how Pakistan is ‎increasingly confronted with several security challenges which are non-traditional in nature.

Visit of the UNAMA Delegation 

Islamabad, November 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Centre for Afghanistan Middle East and Africa (CAMEA) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) hosted an in-house meeting with Ms. Mette Knudsen, the Deputy Special Representative (Political) DSRSG, for Afghanistan in the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). Ms. Knudsen was accompanied by Seniour Political Affairs Officer, Mr. Dmitri Kabaev, the Head of UNAMA Liaison Office in Islamabad, Mr. Peter Drewniany and the Special Assistant to the DSRSG, Ms. Aniella Van Bakel.

During the meeting, the situation in Afghanistan was discussed at length and the delegation was briefed extensively by Ms. Amina Khan, Director CAMEA about Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan as well as the regional perspectives on the issue. There was an exchange of views regarding the grave humanitarian crisis, economic challenges, women’s rights and counterterrorism issues in Afghanistan, and the urgent need to remain engaged with the political dispensation in Afghanistan to avert a breakdown of the state.

Sindh University reviews facilities being provided to female students residing in hostels

Jamshoro, November 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):A meeting under the chair of Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro was held at the provost office of Marvi Girls Hostel in a bid to review the facilities being provided to the female students living at girls’ dormitories.

The house decided to provide sports facilities to the female students inside hostels and in Fatima Jinnah Girls Gymnasium in order to keep them hale and hearty. It was also announced to conduct awareness lecture programs inviting the female professors of the Department of Psychology every week to make them stress-free and unperturbed.

During the meeting, various female faculty members were given key responsibilities to keep in touch with the female students and redress their grievances in the twinkle of an eye. The meeting was aimed at reviewing the facilities of female students residing in the hostel and assigning duties to various female professors for timely solution of every kind of problems concerning them.

The meeting decided that the newly posted Deputy Director Student Affairs (Girls), Dr. Najma Nawaz Channa will bring the problems relating to the students regarding the examination results and attendance to the Controller of Examinations Muhammad Mashooque Siddiqui who would be bound to resolve the same on priority basis.

Similarly, the wardens deputed at various blocks of the hostels will immediately solve the problems on the complaint received to them by the concerned girls about the dormitories. During the meeting, the SU Vice-Chancellor directed the Provost Girls Hostel to conduct half an hour lecture inside the hostel every week, for which the Chairperson of the Department of Psychology Dr. Irfana Shah or any other female teacher would be called for raising awareness among the students.

“Let’s make it sure that the girls may reside comfortably in the hostels instead of being stressed”, he said and added that maximum sports facilities should be provided to the hostlers so that their minds might remain fresh and active and they might not get any kind of anxiety and mental disturbance.

He said that the Director Institute of Physical Education Dr. Soniha Aslam and the Director Sports (Girls) Miss Mukhtiar Bhatti would play a role in bringing them towards sports and looking after sports affairs. He said that the Director Bureau of STAGS Dr. Ghazala Panhwar should prepare and guide the hostel students for various educational programs so that they might get an opportunity to showcase their talents.

During the meeting, the Director Anti-Harassment Cell Prof. Dr. Naseem Aslam Channa gave a detailed briefing about the harassment laws at the workplace and informed about the performance of his cell. The house was informed that CCTV cameras had been installed around the Marvi hostels and strict monitoring was being carried out.

On the occasion, Dr. Kalhoro issued instructions regarding installation of biometric machines so as to keep the record of the relatives of the female students who come to visit them from time to time. In the meeting, Electrical Engineer Tanveer Gulfam informed about the supply of electricity and gas to the Marvi Girls’ Hostel. Meanwhile, the Public Health Engineer Ghulam Muhammad Soomro presented his performance report regarding water supply in the dormitories.

Purchase Store Officer Faisal Zaman Mughal informed the house about the provision of required items in the hostels. It was decided that the students would be provided with the equipment of table tennis and badminton separately in each block of the hostels and they would be encouraged to participate in sports activities and take exercise.

The meeting also decided if any complaint was received from any student regarding harassment, no compromise should be made on it and the responsible persons should be warned immediately and started the process of investigation. The Vice-Chancellor Dr. Kalhoro directed that a review meeting should be held inside the hostels every month. He said that sports activities should also be started in Madar-e-Millat Fatima Jinnah Girls Gymnasium and full protection should be provided to the female students as usual during transportation.

He said that sports like volleyball and basketball should also be started inside the hostels, for which separate sporting equipment would be provided to the students of different blocks. He said that Hostler students will be taken care of as they were the responsibility of the university. He said if any student lodged a complaint, her problem might be solved forthwith by keeping her name in top secret.

He said that the security guards deputed at the gates of the hostels should not have any discussion with the female students and in case of their late arrival; the wardens should come forward and talk to the girls and persuade them to return to the hostels on time.
