1st International Conference on Dermal Sciences 2021 

Faisalabad, November 22, 2021 (PPI-OT):Department of Dermatology, in collaboration with ORIC, TUF organized first 1st International Conference on Dermal Sciences in The University of Faisalabad on November 20, 2021. The conference was on the theme of “Psychosocial Impact of Colourism” which was first ever of its kind in Pakistan.

It was a hybrid conference participated by Dermatologists, Psychologists and Researchers from seven different countries including Pakistan, USA, China, India, Nigeria, Indonesia and Malaysia. The experts presented their research work to highlight the Psychosocial Impact of Colourism. They told that, prejudice based on colour of skin or preference of people with lighter skin over darker ones is Colourism, which results in several psychological and social issues. This emerging problem is further causing self-identity crisis and people with darker tone being a victim of traumatic stress, initiate the use of unethical treatments for the sake of fair skin tone or a better life.

Prof Dr Muhammad Arif Maan, Head Department of Dermatology, Faisalabad Medical University, Dr Muhammad Saleem Ghori, Prof Dr Aamir Ali Choudhry, Principal University Medical and Dental College Prof Dr Tanzeela Khalid, Head Department of Dermatology and Dr Sohail Jabbar, Director ORIC were also present to encourage the young researchers. On this occasion, students from various universities of participant countries also took part in E-Poster, Documentary, Photography, Essay writing, and Poetry competitions. The winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates.

Two days online workshop in collaboration with the Hebei Chemical and Pharmaceutical College, China

Lahore, November 22, 2021 (PPI-OT):Department of Chemistry, UET, Lahore effectively arranged two days online workshop in collaboration with the Hebei Chemical and Pharmaceutical College, China. More than sixty students and respectable faculty members joined the workshop in the smart seminar hall, Electrical Engineering Department, UET, Lahore. Aim of this activity was to bridge the cultural gap between the two countries and also to discuss the research opportunities. Prof. Dr. Farhat Yasmeen, Chairperson, Department of Chemistry, UET, Lahore gave the opening speech representing Pakistan.

She shared the history, vision and mission of both UET, Lahore and Karakoram International University, Gilgit Baltistan. Dr. Arjumand Iqbal Durrani, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry UET, Lahore, highlighted the cultural aspects of Pakistan in the PowerPoint presentation. Main focus of the two-days workshop was on the use of traditional medicines of both Pakistan and China i.e. Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCM) and Pakistan Herbal Medicine (PHM). The event was a great success with the aim of further collaboration in the field of research and student exchange.

Faisalabad, November 22, 2021 (PPI-OT):A team from the R and D department of “Midas Safety” visited National Textile Research Centre “NTRC” to have an overview of R and D, Testing and Product Development facilities available at the Centre. Dr. Ahsan Nazir (Director ORIC) briefed them about the activities of NTRC and available facilities. Both the parties chalked out the key areas for joint R and D, availing the accredited testing services at NTRC and supporting technology commercialization.

Chief Guest of this function was CEO of DigiMasters “Mr. Adeem Mirza”. Who has achieved a remarkable and significant progress in Amazon field, England.

While addressing to audience, He told about his journey started from a very small job and then his sheer determination and hard work made him the CEO of a well-known company. Moreover, he explained how Islam maintains an excellent balance between trading and religious activities. Also, He presented about online business opportunities in Pakistan and ended up the event by developing a belief in the audience that impossibility is a concept which does not exist in this world.

Workshop on Tie and Dye Techniques

Faisalabad, November 22, 2021 (PPI-OT):A workshop on tie and dye techniques was arranged for the 3rd semester BTD by the instructor, Ms. Maham Nadeem, in the subject of Textile Design foundation. Tie and dye is a traditional method of making patterns on fabrics by using different folding techniques and variety of resists which are necessary to the making of unique patterns and designs.

A skilled craft man was invited who taught the students about different styles of tie and dye and the process of colour matching. He also shared the traditional recipes to fix the colour on different types of fabric. Students learned the basics of shibori, bandhani, binding and folding techniques of tie and dye and made samples.

IPS-IUB ink MoU to promote policy research 

Islamabad, November 22, 2021 (PPI-OT):“It is the need of the hour for higher education institutions in Pakistan to promote impactful research in the country providing indigenous solutions to the state, society and economy, and Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) and The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), through their collaborative ventures, are set to contribute in this regard”.

These were the views shared by Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob (TI), vice chancellor, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, during a signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IPS and IUB held on November 19, 2021, aimed at exploring and pursuing joint research, academic and publishing ventures, facilitating cooperation and collaboration between the two institutions in fostering dialogue and discussions among scholars, experts and policy makers in the areas of national interest, and capacity building endeavours for the research faculty and students to carry out policy-oriented research.

Khalid Rahman, Chairman, IPS signed the document on behalf of his organization. The MOU signing ceremony, which took place at IPS in Islamabad, was also attended by IPS’ Vice Chairman Ambassador (r) Syed Abrar Hussain, Prof. Dr. Jawad Iqbal, dean, Faculty of Management Sciences and Commerce, IUB, Naufil Shahrukh, GM Operations, IPS, Syed Nadeem Farhat, Senior Research Officer, Shahzad Gill, assistant professor, IUB, Shafaq Sarfraz, manager outreach, IPS among a number of other officials from both the alma maters.

The Vice-chancellor of IUB further said that such strategic collaborations in academia and think tanks were required to realize Pakistan’s dream of a knowledge-based economy and society. He hoped that the MOU would help build a strategic community comprising academia, research institutions and policy-makers in the country.
