Gwadar Campus faculty and students participated in Seminar on Geographical Indications 

Turbat, October 18, 2021 (PPI-OT):A Seminar on “Geographical Indications Framework and Opportunities for SMEs, Women Entrepreneurs, and Business Community” was jointly organized by Australia Awards, SMEDA, Gwadar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the University of Turbat at Gwadar Club on 13th October 2021. Campus Director Ijaz Ahmed, Faculty members, and students of UoT’s Gwadar Campus represented their university in the seminar.

Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Ismail Director (GI)-IPO from the Ministry of Commerce said that Pakistan has enacted the Geographical Indications (Registration and Protection) Act, 2020. This will lead towards the protection of Pakistani brands and ensure premium prices for local products originating from different areas including Balochistan.

The GI Act, 2020 provides legal protection to indigenous products such as Balochi Sajji, Makran Dates, Ziarat apples, Sunderkhani grapes, Basmati rice, Sindhi Ajrak, Peshawri Chappal, etc. He said that it will encourage SMEs, women entrepreneurs, and local producers to expand their business at the national and international levels.

Director UoT’s Gwadar Campus, Ijaz Ahmed, President Gwadar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Naguman Abdul, Assistant Manager, SMEDA Quetta, and Chairman Gwadar Club Brigadier Asif Mehmood also spoke on the occasion.

UoT’s Faculty Members presented papers in International conference 

Turbat, October 18, 2021 (PPI-OT):The faculty members from the University of Turbat, Dr. Naeem Ullah and Dr. Rooh Ullah presented their papers at the 4th International Conference on “Emerging Trends in Engineering, Management and Sciences (ICETEMS 2021)”.

The Conference was organized by the City University of Science and Information Technology (CUSIT), Peshawar, in collaboration with Karakoram International University, Gilgit-Baltistan (KIU) on 13-14 October 2021 at CUSIT, Peshawar.

Dr. Naeem Ullah Presented a paper entitled “Biological Fuel Cell as Green Alternative Approach for Sustainable Bioenergy product” at the conference, while Dr. Rooh Ullah presented a paper on “Facile Functionalization of Green Nanomaterial in Sustainable Environment. The conference was chaired by Prof. Dr. S. Minhaj Ul Hassan, Vice-Chancellor, CUSIT, and Peshawar. The conference was attended by research scholars from Pakistan and abroad.

Workshop / Dialogue on Fake News and Critical Thinking in UoT’s Gwadar Campus 

Turbat, October 18, 2021 (PPI-OT):A One-day Workshop / Dialogue on “Fake News and Critical Thinking” was organized by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), Islamabad at the University of Turbat’s Gwadar Campus on 12th October 2021. Gorham Aslam Baloch, Event Coordinator, CRSS, Balochistan Chapter started the event by introducing the host and panelists with participants.

Mr. Tahir Rahtor, Senior Journalist / Media Trainer, and Mr. Shahzada Zulfiqar, President of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) apprised students how to use critical thinking to identify fake news. The panellists also received questions on the subject from participants.

Campus Director Ijaz Ahmed, In-charge Student Affairs Sadia Naseer, In-charge Management Sciences Department Saghir Naseem, faculty member Mukhtar Basheer, Shahnaz Noor, and senior students also participated in the discussion. The role of media, the process of complaining against cyber-crime, fake news and its solution, and other similar issues were also discussed during the session.

The participants were divided into two groups to prepare a presentation based on Critical Thinking. In his closing remarks, Mr. Rahtoor appreciated the active participation of the students in general and the active participation of female students in particular.

“I am impressed to see the student’s approach and social behaviour during the discussion which was quite good and very rational. Their response on fake news and critical thinking impressed me. The students know much more about the subject what we had conceived earlier”, Tahir Rahtoor acknowledged.

Mr. Shahzada Zulfiqar Said “It is a matter of great pleasure for me to visit UoT’s Gwadar Campus first time and had such brilliant students. Education is the biggest thing that brings about a positive change in the society and becomes a vehicle for development and progress.”

Speaking on the occasion, the Campus Director Ijaz Ahmed thanked the representatives of CRSS for organizing such an informative and inspiring workshop in UoT’s Gwadar Campus. He said that in the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, the University of Turbat and its campuses at Gwadar and Panjgur were on the path of development and disseminating quality education, facilities, and opportunities to the students for showcasing their talent.

In the end, the Campus Director presented the shield to the panelists on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor. While Mr. Rahtoor presented Imtiaz Gul’s book to Campus Director and In-charge Student Affairs UoT’s Gwadar Campus.

Turbat, October 18, 2021 (PPI-OT):A One Day Workshop /Dialogue on “Fake News and Critical Thinking” was organized by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), Islamabad at the University of Turbat’s Main Campus on 11th October 2021. Mr. Tahir Rahtoor, Senior Journalist / Media Trainer, and Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities shared views with the participants on the subject.

Mr. Gohram Aslam Baloch, Event Coordinator, CRSS, Balochistan Chapter moderated the workshop. Mr. Jameel Baloch, In-charge Student Affairs was also present on the occasion. The senior students from different departments had participated in the workshop and responded actively. Tahir Rahtoor said that the students of the University of Turbat were second to none in terms of talent.

There is a need to provide them opportunities and platforms to showcase their talent. He said that the academic progress, as well as infrastructural development of the University of Turbat in a short span of time, were impressive and worth following. At the end of the event Dean, Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor extended gratitude to the CRSS for conducting a very informative and knowledge-based workshop at the University of Turbat.

Apply for Maastricht University Holland-High Potential Scholarship 

Lahore, October 18, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Maastricht University (UM) Holland-High Potential Scholarship program offers 24 full scholarships of €29.000 (including tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend) each academic year for highly talented students from outside the European Union (EU) who have been admitted to a Master’s program at UM.

The Scholarship program consists of both the High Potential Scholarship (funded by the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund), and the Holland Scholarship, which is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science in conjunction with Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences. It is aimed at international students from outside the EU/EEA who wish to follow a full degree program in the Netherlands.

Dr. Sassan Jahangiri along with his local represents visited NTRC

Faisalabad, October 18, 2021 (PPI-OT):Dr. Sassan Jahangiri (Technical Sales Manager, Pakistan and Turkey, Sciessent Turkey) along with his local representatives, visited National Textile Research Centre (NTRC) to have an overview of R and D, Testing and Product Development facilities available at the centre.

Dr. Ahsan Nazir (Director ORIC) briefed them about the activities at NTRC and the available facilities. Both parties chalked out the key areas for joint R and D, availing the accredited testing services available at NTRC and supporting technology commercialization.
