Bahawalpur, October 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):On the Invitation of Prof. Dr. Inayat Ullab Babar Vice Chancellor, University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila, Prof. Dr. Saeed Ahmad Buzdar Director, Quality Enhancement Cell the Islamia University of Bahawalpur conducted one day orientation/Training session for the Deans, Chairpersons and Principal Officers of University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila, about the parameters of various international ranking agencies.

In this training, Dr. Buzdar emphasized on the preparation required to apply in these ranking agencies. At the end of the session, an honorary shield was presented by Prof. Dr. Babar to Dr. Buzdar for valuable information and experience sharing with the audience.

Spokesperson to the Punjab Government Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan visits IUB

Bahawalpur, October 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):Provincial Minister for Prisons and Spokesperson to the Punjab Government Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan has said that the government has taken historic steps for the promotion of higher education in the last three years. He said that the Islamia University of Bahawalpur is the best example of this where in a short span of three years the number of students increased from 15,000 to 45,000 and the number of teachers increased from 550 to 1,800. The number of faculties increased from 7 to 14 and the number of departments increased from 48 to 129.

He said that the government was focusing all its resources and attention on the development of universities and enhancing the quality of education and quality research. For the first time, Pakistani universities have been significantly included in the national and world rankings. Islamia University Bahawalpur has been ranked among the 12th best universities in the country and 1000 in the world. The provincial minister expressed these views during a meeting with Vice Chancellor Engineer Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob on the occasion of his visit to the Islamia University of Bahawalpur.

Director General Public Relations Saman Rai, Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Irfan Ali Kathia, Syndicate Member Sumaira Malik, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Registrar Prof. Dr. Moazzam Jamil, Treasurer, Prof. Dr. Abu Bakar, Director Information Nasir Hameed and other officers were present on the occasion. The provincial minister said that two new campuses of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur have been approved which were established at Ahmadpur East and Liaquatpur. It is in line with the vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan that higher education should be brought to the doorstep of the local youth and their access should be facilitated.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob on the occasion informed about the ongoing teaching, research and development activities in the University. He said that new campuses, new teaching blocks and new hostels were being constructed at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur due to historic mega projects worth Rs. 4 billion by the government. He said that with the help of special transport service in the university, students of nearby towns would be provided transport facility which has reduced their hostel and other expenses.

He said that Islamia University Bahawalpur is the best example where 14,000 students are being provided scholarships of Rs. 70 crore and for the first time more than 6000 students have been given under PM Ehsaas program. Similarly, thanks to scholarships from the Punjab government and higher education, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and a large number of young people from the area have received scholarships. He said that the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has achieved a special place in intercropping technology with the help of China.

Thanks to this project, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur will promote mixed cultivation of soybean and maize due to intercropping technology. Exports will be reduced and billions of rupees in foreign exchange savings will be saved. Thus, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has a special place in reviving the agricultural economy and in the discovery of new cotton seeds and thanks to the research done in the last three years, Islamia University of Bahawalpur has reached a unique place in transforming the agricultural economy.

He said that the new varieties of cotton of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur are easily coping with the problems like high temperature, low water, curl leaf virus and white fly and seeds of the same variety are being cultivated in 45 to 50 percent of the country. About the ongoing admission drive in the university, he said that at present more than 125,000 students have applied for 234 programs in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and the Islamia University of Bahawalpur is not only from South Punjab but also from all over Pakistan due to its excellent academic standards.

MoU Signing Ceremony between the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and Universiti Teknologi Mara Malaysia

Bahawalpur, October 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and Universiti Teknologi Mara Malaysia for cooperation and collaboration in teaching and research. On this occasion, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob and Prof. Dr. Haja Rozia Janur, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and International Affairs signed an agreement. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Hamid, Rector Universiti Teknologi Mara, Prof. Dr. Moazzam Jameel, Registrar and Dr. Abid Shehzad, Director International Linkages were also present on the occasion.

According to the agreement, the two institutions will exchange faculty and student to benefit from each other’s educational environment, teaching and research related facilities. Similarly, joint conferences, seminars and short courses will be organized. Information from research and other projects will be exchanged which will be posted on the websites by both the institutes. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob said that the agreement with Universiti Teknologi Mara is a part of the efforts of Islamia University of Bahawalpur under which the University is promoting links with other international universities.

On the occasion, Rector University Technology Mara Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hamid and Prof. Dr. Haja Rozia Janur appreciated the Islamia University of Bahawalpur for creating links with other international universities and expressed full cooperation from their university. Daddy Faisal Ahmed Salleh, Ambassador of Malaysia to Pakistan, said that the agreement between the two universities would further enhance the existing cultural and educational ties with the brotherly country of Pakistan. In recent times, there has been an increase in cultural and economic cooperation between the two countries, which is a significant step. Amna Baloch, Pakistan’s ambassador to Malaysia, said thousands of Pakistanis were living in Malaysia for employment and education, and that the two countries had a historic relationship that was growing.

IUB observed World Cotton Day 2021

Bahawalpur, October 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):World Cotton Day was celebrated in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur under the umbrella of National Cotton Breeding Research Institute (NCBI). NCBI is recently established keeping in view the vision of the Prime Minister under the supervision of Mr. Jamshaid Iqbal Cheema, SAPM on Food Security. The institute was inaugurated by the PM Imran Khan during his recent visit to the IUB in the presence of Chief Minister, Sardar Usman Khan Buzdar, Syed Fakhar Imam, Federal Minister, Ministry of National Food Security and Research.

Since its inception, the institute is working hard to achieve its objectives under the direction of the Chancellor / Governor, Punjab, Ch. Muhammad Sarwar, Pro Chancellor, Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfraz and the dynamic leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Eng. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob. The event was organized in the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment and chaired by the Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Asif Majeed, research partner of IUB Breeding project and attended by the deans, directors, faculty members, researchers and students.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, Director, NCBI and Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences briefed the audience about the valuable contribution of the IUB in cotton crop revival. The role of IUB varieties is pivotal as 40 % of cotton crop grown in Punjab is covered by the cultivars of IUB. The new candidate lines have potential to tolerate water shortage, heat resistance, white fly tolerance and other biotic and abiotic stresses. A walk was also arranged to commemorate the importance of the cotton crop after the seminar.

Ch Shujat Hussain, Parvez Elahi and Moonis Elahi express deep sorrow over loss of precious lives in Balochistan earthquake

Lahore, October 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Muslim League President and former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujat Hussain, Acting Governor Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and Federal Minister for Water Resources Moonis Elahi have expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the Balochistan earthquake.

Ch Shujat Hussain said that immediate compensation should be announced for the earthquake victims and the families of the deceased and best medical facilities should be provided to the injured. Acting Governor Punjab Ch Parvez Elahi said that people affected by sudden calamity would not be left alone, air ambulance should be used to rescue the victims and provide medical aid.

Federal Minister for Water Resources Moonis Elahi said that the Balochistan government should provide relief to the victims on an emergency basis and make immediate arrangements for food and life essentials for the quake victims. The PML leaders prayed to Allah Almighty to grant forgiveness to the deceased and grant speedy recovery to the injured.

Rescue 1122 is a humanitarian institution of our time which the PML-N government could not close down despite enmity: Ch Parvez Elahi

Lahore, October 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):A delegation of headed by Ms. Choice Ufuoma Okoro, Head of the United Nations Office of Coordination and Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) calls on acting Governor Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi at the Governor’s House. The delegation included Fatima Iqbal, Saliha Saleem and Mohammad Irshad while Director General Punjab Emergency Services Rescue 1122 Dr Rizwan Naseer, Deeba Shahnaz and Mohammad Riaz were also present in the meeting.

Ch Parvez Elahi said that Rescue 1122 is an ideal humanitarian organization established in our time which the PML-N government could not close down despite strong enmity. The Service Structure Bill was passed by the Punjab Assembly to provide financial security to the personnel of the department. He said that the response time of Rescue 1122 is 7 minutes and this organization serves all humanity without any discrimination.

He said that the services rendered by Rescue 1122 during the Corona epidemic were commendable while the rescue teams transported 22,000 Corona patients to the hospital and also buried 4,194 victims. Ch Parvez Elahi further said that the certification of UNOCHA’s first rescue team in South Asia is commendable and hoped that UNOCHA would assist in the training of rescue personnel in all the districts of Punjab.
