Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid assumes charge as Rector GIK Institute

Peshawar, October 02, 2021 (PPI-OT): Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, a renowned scientist who was appointed by President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi as Rector of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology has assumed charge of his new assignment. A letter issued about his appointment says that “the president of Pakistan/Chancellor of GIKI has pleased to appoint Prof Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid as Rector GIK Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology for a period of three years.”

A letter for the appointment of Prof Khalid was earlier forwarded by the Society for the Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology (SOPREST) to the President of Pakistan. SOPREST is the parent body of GIK Institute and its first president was former President of Pakistan and founder of GIK Institute, late Ghulam Ishaq Khan.

Prof. Khalid is a distinguished academician and prominent researcher and having rich experience of academia-industry linkages and actively involved in the change and paradigm shift to implement Outcome-Based Education (OBE) of engineering disciplines, quality assurance and accreditation manual to harmonize with Washington Accord and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for international recognition and ranking global mobility of engineers.

Prof. Khalid was awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz for his excellent contribution in the field of science and technology. He had served as Chairman of Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC); Vice-Chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore from December 2014-2018, and acting VC of Punjab Tianjin University of Technology (PTUT). He had earlier served in GIK Institute as Pro-Rector (Academics) and Dean of the Faculty of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering. His research interests are in the field of nanotechnology and Materials Engineering and published over 200 research papers with an accumulative impact factor of 121.

Healthy academic environment in Gwadar Campus, Laudable, BUITEMS Professors

Turbat, October 02, 2021 (PPI-OT): “I felt impressed to see the teamwork and efforts of faculty and administrative staff under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad in promoting a healthy academic environment on the campus. Not only building and other infrastructure, but the passion of faculty members and administration inspired a lot.” These views were expressed by Prof. Dr. Nazeer Ahmed, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences and Informatics, and Prof. Dr. Liaquat Ali Channa (Fulbright Alumnus), and Associate Prof. English Department of BUITEMS during their visit to UoT’s Gwadar Campus on 24th September 2021.

Vice-Chancellor, University of Turbat, Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad warmly welcomed professors from BUITEMS as they arrived at campus. Campus Director Ijaz Ahmed, Director ORIC Dr. Ghulam Jan, In-charge Commerce Department Mujahid Hussain, Protocol Officer Mir Bahad, and faculty members and admin staff were also present on the occasion. The campus Director briefed the visitors regarding academic and infrastructural developments of the campus.

They also visited different parts of the campus. Besides sharing their academic and research expertise during an interactive session with faculty members, they also assured their full support for the further development of the campus. Speaking on the occasion, they hoped that the coming years would witness the further rise of the campus in the field of higher education and research. In the end, VC presented shields to the guests.

Commander 440 Brigade Gwadar visits University of Turbat’s Gwadar Campus

Turbat, October 02, 2021 (PPI-OT): Brigadier Fahad Mansoor, Commander 440 Brigade, Gwadar paid a visit to the Gwadar Campus of the University of Turbat (UoT) on 28th September 2021. Major Zarak has also accompanied him. Brigadier was warmly welcomed by the Campus Director Ijaz Ahmed along with faculty and administrative staff.

Besides achievements accomplished by UoT’s Gwadar Campus in a short span of time, the Campus Director during the meeting, also briefed the guests regarding progress so far towards the establishment of the University of Gwadar. In-charge Education Department Sadia Naseer, In-charge Commerce Department Mujahid Hussain, and In-charge Computer Science Department Muhammad Akram were also present on the occasion.

After visiting different sections of the campus, Brigadier Fahad said that he was surprised to see such a developed and well-managed university campus in this region. “It was indeed a pleasure to visit the University of Turbat’s Gwadar Campus. I have found it to be an excellent state of educational excellence and striving to be one of the best in the region.

The faculty under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad and ownership of the Campus Director has carried out immense hard work to bring it to the present status. Insha Allah I will keep on visiting the esteemed institution more often”, Brigadier Fahad said while sharing his views regarding the academic and infrastructural development of the campus. Director Campus presented a shield to the Brigadier on behalf of Worthy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad.

MoU between UET, Lahore and Velosi Inegrity and Safety Pakistan (Private) Limited

Lahore, October 02, 2021 (PPI-OT): The University of Engineering and Technology, (UET) Lahore signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Velosi Integrity and Safety Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. The company has head office in UAE (Abu Dhabi) that have its operational offices in Pakistan and more than 86 countries worldwide. The company offers a full range of specialized consultancy services of asset integrity management, vendor inspection, third party inspection, certification, testing, HSE consultancy, engineering services, software development and manpower recruitment services for the oil and gas industry, mining, and energy industries.

The MOU was formally signed today by Professor Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Vice Chancellor, University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore and Ms. Samina Wasim, General Manager, Velosi Integrity and Safety Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. Professor Dr. Naveed Ramzan, Dean Faulty of Dean Chemical, Metallurgical and Polymer, Dr. Muhammad Shafique, Director External Linkages and Muhammad Suleman Chugtai, Manager Business Development of Velosi (Pvt) were among other who participated in the ceremony. Main emphasis of the MOU was on internships support program, job placement of the university graduates, support for faculty development, academic information sharing, and conduct of research conferences, seminar and workshops.

Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Vice Chancellor UET Lahore designated Prof. Dr. Naveed Ramzan, Dean Chemical, Metallurgical and Polymer for coordination, whereas, Velosi designated Muhammad Suleman Chughtai (Manager Business Development) for the same. On this occasion it was also acknowledged that the gap between academia and industry needs to be bridged up by mutual efforts and areas of business opportunities needs to be worked out especially with university spin off companies.

Student Azka Ghalib scales 6050 m high peak in Shimshal Valley

Islamabad, October 02, 2021 (PPI-OT): NUST congratulates Ms Azka Ghalib, student of BBA at the NUST Business School (NBS) for scaling the 6,050-metre high peak of MinglikSar in Shimshal valley of Pakistan. Her team consisted of four other woman mountaineers as well.

It is our pride that Azka is contributing actively to the immensely tough adventurous sport and leading as an inspiration to all girls and women of Pakistan to follow their dreams and believe in themselves. Indeed, there’s nothing a woman can’t achieve if she sets her heart to it.
