Webinar on Professional Grooming Skills

Wah Cantt, September 10, 2021 (PPI-OT):Counselling and Placement Directorate in collaboration with Department of Management Sciences organized a webinar on “Professional Grooming Skills” for UW students and alumni on 08 September, 2021. This event was organized in continuity to a series of previous webinars i.e., “Interviewing Skills” and “CV Writing Skills”.

The webinar aimed at improving students’ skills during job/professional tenure. Mr. Salman Zia, Deputy Manager, Nayatel was the resource person. He highlighted how self-focus, communication, body language, building a good character and problem solving skills can contribute towards effective personality grooming.

The session helped students to gain insights into practical aspects of what an interviewer looks for in an interviewee. A short introductory video about life at UW was also presented. Over 100 participants, including students and faculty from various departments joined the webinar. The webinar ended with an interactive question answer session.

Webinar on Multimodality: Verbal and Non-verbal Communication

Wah Cantt, September 10, 2021 (PPI-OT):Department of English, as part of its lecture/webinar series by eminent foreign speakers, organized 3rd webinar on “Multimodality: Verbal and Non-verbal Communication” on 01 September, 2021. Dr. Hanita Hassan, Associate Professor and Chair of Language Academy, University Technology, and Malaysia was the guest speaker.

Several aspects from semiotics to multimodality were discussed following some new research aspects in Pakistani and Malaysian context. A large number of participants attended the webinar with keen interest. A brief QA session also followed the event. In the end, Associate Professor, Dr. Rasib Mahmood, Chairperson Department of English extended his gratitude to Dr. Hanita Hassan for her insightful discussion.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly leaves 90 percent agenda unaddressed amid protest 

Islamabad, September 10, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) left 90 percent agenda unaddressed on Friday due to protest of lawmakers belonging to merged tribal districts, observes Fee and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet.

Following are key observations of the House proceedings during the 11th sitting of 20th session:

Members’ Participation

The House met for an hour and 28 minutes.

The sitting started at 11:02 am against the scheduled time of 10:00 am.

The speaker chaired the entire sitting.

The deputy speaker was also present.

The leaders of the House (Chief Minister) and the opposition were absent.

As many as 48 MPAs (33 percent) were present at the outset and 54 (37 percent) at the adjournment of the sitting.

The parliamentary leader of ANP, PPPP, BAP, MMAP and PML attended the proceedings.

Three out of four minority lawmakers attended the sitting.

Output

The House did not consider four government bills appearing on the agenda. These bills were the KP Factories (Amendment) Bill, 2021; the KP (Regularization of Services of Employees of Erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas) Bill, 2021; the West Pakistan Motor Vehicles Taxation (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and the KP Universities (Second Amendment) Bill, 2021.

Representation and Responsiveness

The House took up eight out of ten starred questions, while the lawmakers asked four supplementary questions.

Two calling attention notices and as many adjournment motions on the agenda remained unaddressed.

Order and Institutionalization

Six lawmakers spoke on points of order for 22 minutes and paid tributes to veteran journalist Rahimullah Yusufzai who passed away last day due to cancer.

Lawmakers belonging to merged districts of KP and BAP protested for 15 minutes when the government opposed an adjournment motion regarding violation of quota during induction in health department against 481 seats.

The House was adjourned to meet again on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 02:00 pm.

Transparency

‘Orders of the Day’ was available for the legislators, observers and the media.

Attendance of the lawmakers was not available for the observers and the media.

Sindh Assembly leaves 50 percent agenda unaddressed

Islamabad, September 10, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Sindh Assembly left 50 percent agenda unaddressed on Friday and took up five calling attention notices related to governance and education issues, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet.

Following are key observations of the House proceedings during the first sitting of 23rd session:

Members’ Participation

The House met for two hours and 35 minutes.

The sitting started at 03:06 pm against the scheduled time of 02:00 pm.

The deputy speaker presided over the entire proceedings in the absence of speaker.

The leader of the House (Chief Minister) did not attend the sitting.

The leader of the opposition was present for 32 minutes.

As many as 35 MPAs (21 percent) were present at the outset and 38 (23 percent) at the adjournment of the sitting.

The parliamentary leaders of PPPP, PTI, MQMP, TLP and MMAP attended the proceedings.

Five out of nine minority lawmakers attended the proceedings.

Output

The House did not consider two bills and as many audit reports.

Representation and Responsiveness

Three out of 16 questions were taken up during the question hour. In addition, the lawmakers asked 18 supplementary questions.

A privilege motion of PTI lawmaker and an adjournment motion sponsored by an MMAP lawmaker were not taken up.

Minister for Health gave a statement under Rule 261 regarding cases of dog bite in Sindh. He spoke on the issue for 15 minutes.

The House took up five calling attention notices (CANs) regarding fees being charged from students by educational institutions during COVID-19 lockdown, illegal constructions, cleanliness of drainages, steps to control crime in Karachi and major sources of water supply to materialize K-IV Project.

Order and Institutionalization

PTI lawmakers protested for three minutes during the proceedings against remarks of a PPPP lawmaker against the federal government.

A PTI lawmaker also protested for three minutes when the chair disallowed him to give extra time for speech on his calling attention notice.

The House was adjourned to meet again on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 02: 00 pm.
