Memorandum of Understanding signs between Virtual University of Pakistan and Lahore College for Women University

Lahore, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Virtual University of Pakistan (VU) and Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) for research, development, innovation developing joint academic programs and Blended Learning model. Prof. Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti, Rector VU, and Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor LCWU signed the MoU in a ceremony held at Virtual University’s head office.

The MoU envisages collaboration between the two institutions in academic, research and infrastructural resources. In research projects, this linkage will provide collaboration in sharing of academic data, publication and join conferences. Such courses could be taught with blended learning so that the teaching of classes, multimedia recordings, tutorials and attention through e-Learning platforms, and personnel would be shared by both universities.

Both institutions agreed on faculty exchange between VU and LCWU to give experience of both methodologies. The production of “massive open on-line courses” (MOOCs) or other affordable mechanisms are also one of the salient feature of MoU. Under the arrangement, both institutions shall endeavour to share teaching materials such as video recorded lectures, research reports, working papers, audio-visual materials, software among others, in a mutually beneficial manner.

On this occasion, Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti highlighted that Virtual University has always been working on judicious and economic use of resources in the greater national interest of the country through innovative use of technology. He said Learning Management System and open courseware of Virtual University will be installed in LCWU for the provision of VU’s educational content. He said, Virtual University is always ready to help and develop online learning system for any University of Pakistan.

Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza admired that Virtual University being leaders in disseminating education through information and communication technology and will be mutually beneficial in promoting higher education in the country. She said, LCWU will coordinate in research, education, and development.

The joint degree program will be very helpful for the students of both the institutions. Students of Lahore College who have to leave LCWU for any reason will be able to continue their education from the platform of Virtual University. The services of teachers of Virtual University would be sought to fill the shortage of teachers in Lahore College, she further added. At the end of the ceremony, shields were presented to the guests.

Secretary of Board of Investment visits NUST 

Islamabad, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Secretary of Board of Investment (BOI), Ms Fareena Mazhar, along with Additional Secretary BOI Mr Khashih-ur-Rehman called on AVM Dr Rizwan Riaz SI(M), Pro Rector (RIC) NUST and Vice President National Science and Technology Park (NSTP) at NUST Islamabad Campus.

During her visit, Secretary BOI appreciated the work of NSTP team and extended full support of BOI in exploring avenues of collaboration with NSTP. Inaugurated in 2019, NSTP is Pakistan’s first Science and Technology Park which holds the status of a high-tech Special Economic Zone (SEZ). It is currently houses more than 60 companies ranging from entrepreneurial start-ups to multinationals. BOI, besides being the apex investment promotion agency of Pakistan, is the secretariat for SEZs.

UVAS VC launched monsoon tree plantation Campaign to promote greenery under Prime Minister’s Green Pakistan Programme 

Lahore, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (SI) along with Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani planted a sapling outside of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition under the ‘Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign’ here on Thursday in City Campus Lahore.

A few faculty and administrative staff members including Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Principal Officer Estate Management Dr Liaquat Ahmad, Prof Dr Memoona Chaudhary, Registrar Sajjad Hyder and Estate Management Officer Lt. Col (R) Muhammad Ilyas Alam were present.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said that we will try to improve environment for new generation and during the campaign a large number of saplings would be planted on all campuses of UVAS, including Ravi Campus Pattoki, Collage of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Jhang, Khan Bahadur Chaudhary Mushtaq Ahmad Para-Veterinary School Narowal and Para Veterinary Institute Karor Lal Eason Layyah Campus to promote greenery and contribute to the Green Pakistan Programme.

UVAS observes one minute silence to express solidarity with oppressed Kashmiri peoples 

Lahore, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):Meanwhile, The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad in connection with the (Day of Exploitation) observed one minute silence to express solidarity with the oppressed Kashmiri people on completion of two year military siege of India in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Nasim Ahmed condemned in harsh words the deployment of a large number of Indian army in Kashmir to suppress Kashmiris independence movement. He said we always stand with our Kashmiri peoples. He also paid homage to Kashmiri martyrs and UVAS Pro VC Prof Dr Masood Rabbani prayed for martyrs of Kashmiris.

IIUI President holds meeting with Faculty of Arabic

Islamabad, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):H.E. Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, President, International Islamic University (IIUI), chaired a meeting with Faculty of Arabic in which matters pertaining to scope, issues, future strategies and research were discussed. It was attended by Dean Faculty of Arabic Professor Dr. Fazalullah and HoDs / Chairperson including Dr. Abdul Monim, Dr. Zaheer Ahmed, Dr. Abdul Mujeeb, Dr. Aliya Akram and Dr Sher Ali. The activity was part of a series of meetings by IIUI President with the faculty to review the existing standards, scope of improvement and exploring ways for quality education.

During the meeting, importance of Arabic language, utilization of distance education in Arabic language, research journals, arrangement of workshops /conferences and inclusion of more foreign faculty members were also discussed. Addressing the meeting participants, Dr. Hathal said that the Faculty of Arabic is one of the core faculties of the university. Referring to the importance of Arabic, he said it is a vital language that has special prominence in the lives of Muslim.

Identifying the global competition and requirements, IIUI President stressed to focus on use of modern techniques of teaching and urged to benefit from distance learning. He also emphasized that faculty must remain updated to the advancements of the technology. During the meeting, new and innovative ideas and suggestions presented by the senior faculty members were appreciated by the President, IIUI. He called for efforts to have improvements in the regard of academic excellence and quality education.

IIUI President said that university will encourage talented and honest officials while no one is above law. He said we all need to work in the light of rules, regulations and merit. The Dean, at the end of the meeting thanked IIUI President for his keen interest in the faculty Arabic. He vowed that directions of worthy President will be followed for further improvement. Earlier, he also briefed in detail about the activities and vision of the faculty.

Public Defense of PhD Computer Science Thesis 

Lahore, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):Ms. Iqra Safder (PHDCS16001) from the first batch of Ph.D. in Computer Science, Department of Computer Science at the Information Technology University of the Punjab, is set to defend her thesis.

The public Ph.D. defense will be held at LT-1, 6th Floor, Information Technology University (ITU) of the Punjab, Arfa Software Technology Park, 346-B, Ferozepur Road, Lahore on Thursday, August 05, 2021, from 10 am to 11:30 am.

The title of Iqra’s Ph.D. thesis is “Deep Feature Engineering Approaches for Algorithm Searching from Full-text Publications”. Her thesis supervisor is Dr. Saeed Ul Hassan, Chairperson, Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science (ITU) and co-supervised by Dr. Anna Visviz (SGH Warsaw School of Economics, Warsaw, Poland) and amp; Dr. Suppawong Taurob (Faculty of ICT, Mahidol University, Thailand).

For smooth entry into Information Technology University (ITU) of the Punjab, Arfa Software Technology Park, Lahore, prior registration is required to attend the public PhD defense. Registrations will be closed on Wednesday, August 04, 2021 at 1 PM.
