SMIU arranges three-day Skill Development Program for final year students

Karachi, July 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) arranged a three-day program titled ‘Skill Development Program’ for the final year students of the university. The graduating students attended various sessions, including CV writing, Mock Interview, Career Counselling, motivational speaking, Time Management and Change Management. Addressing the certificate distribution ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mujeebuddin Sahrai Memon said that: “we believe in supporting and developing our students to compete in the market and such programs are extremely important for them.”

After the reopening of the university, the SMIU is actively engaged in organizing different initiatives for the faculty and students. More than 150 students participated in all the sessions which were conducted by 13 national and international experts from various industries.

Prof. Memon appreciated the efforts of the Directorate of Students Affairs and faculty members for planning and organizing such an excellent program. He further said that skill development was indispensable in today’s competitive market. “This university believes in supporting and developing the skills of students in every possible way,” he remarked.

Prof. Memon said that the SMIU as an institute aimed to produce mature and groomed students. “You as a student enter this university as a customer and leave as its product,” he said. Director Students Affairs, Dr. Asif Ali Wagan said that students of SMIU were eager to learn, adding that such opportunities will enhance their skills. The Vice-Chancellor and Deans distributed certificates to the resource persons and participants the program.

IUB Conducted a Webinar Electoral Reforms in Pakistan Role of Political Parties

Bahawalpur, July 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Department of Political Science, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur conducted a Webinar Electoral Reforms in Pakistan Role of Political Parties. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob appreciated the Political Science department for opting a most relevant and current issue of political and social importance. He said that the free, fair and transparent electoral system is necessary for the stability and security of the country. As Pakistan came into being on the basis of democratic struggle and it’s survival and integration is also possible in democratic set up. Hamid Khan, a Senior Lawyer, writer and Politician described the constitutional aspects of the electoral system in Pakistan.

He said that Article 218, 219 and 220 of the Constitution of 1973 empower the Election Commission to make arrangements and conduct the elections in a transparent and impartial manner. All the federal, provincial and local government institutions are bound to cooperate with the Election Commission to strengthen its administrative base. He favoured the use of Electronic Voting Machines to avoid tempering in election results. On the issue of right to vote to overseas Pakistani citizens he was of the view that a large number of Pakistani diaspora living abroad is one of the strengths of the country and should be empowered by the right to vote.

Dr. Fauzia Ghani, Prof. of Political Science, Govt. College University, Lahore presented the theoretical analysis of the different aspects of the need and importance of elections, democracy and political parties in the political system. She said that elections are the heart of political system and the authority of the ruler should depict the morality and legitimacy. Free, fair and transparent electoral system is the only mean to build the confidence of the masses. The ongoing Reforms in the electoral system of Pakistan are the need of the hour and efforts must be made to avoid the loop holes and fraudulent practices can be avoided.

Dean faculty of social sciences Prof. Dr. Robina Bhatti in her concluding remarks congratulated the Political Science department for arranging a debate on a very important topic and inviting the legendary of the subject. She said that transparency and fairness in the electoral system promotes the democratic culture which is possible through effective monitoring system, dialogues and long-term planning. She described that dialogue is the strength of the society. Positive image of the country is presented through the Political culture which can be prompted through the civic education and Political socialization of the citizens.

At the end Chairman Department of Political Science Prof. Dr Mussawar Hussain Bukhari thanked the guest speakers, dean faculty of social sciences and the Vice Chancellor for sparing their time and sharing valuable thoughts to enrich the students of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and students and faculty of the other universities the general public. He congratulated all the faculty members of department especially the moderator of the webinar Mr. Khizar Hayat for cooperation and making it possible.

Karachi University launches Professor Mateen-ur-Rehman’s book titled “Main Ne Pakistan Bante Dekha”

Karachi, July 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):The University of Karachi on Thursday launched the second edition of the book titled ‘Main ne Pakistan Bante Dekha’, which is based on childhood memories of migration of Professor Syed Mateen-ur-Rehman Murtaza. The late Mateen Murtaza was a well-known veteran journalist and the former chairman of the University of Karachi’s department of mass communication. In his book, Professor Mateen has shared his childhood memories of migration and mentioned the experiences after separating from the family along with his younger brother.

The speakers at the book launch informed the audience that the book contains hardship experiences of Professor Mateen and how and why he fell in love with Pakistan. The speakers including Dean Arts and Social Sciences Professor Dr Nasreen Aslam Shah, seasoned journalist Mahmood Sham, former Dean Arts and Social Sciences Professor Dr Shams Uddin, ex-chairman Mass Communication Department Professor Dr Tahir Masood, Director Bureau of Composition, Compilation and Translation Syed Iqbal Hussain, Professor Dr Nisar Ahmed Zuberi and the chairperson KU-MCD Dr Fauzia Naz while quoting the book narrated how Professor Mateen Murtaza has recollected his memories in the book.

They talked about what had happened at the time of the establishment of Pakistan, and what happened to those who migrated to Pakistan and what Hindus and Sikhs did to them. The speakers observed that as the partition related memories have been written by the eyewitness, it would surely have a huge impact on our younger generation.

The speakers informed the audience how Professor Mateen Murtaza has recalled the time when the Muslims, who have left their homes with their entire families and crossed the river of blood, to reach Pakistan. On this occasion, Professor Dr Nasreen Aslam Shah announced that she would make sure that the book Main ne Pakistan Bante Dekha must be present in all seminar libraries so that our young generation can study it.

Dr Fauzia Naz said that through his writing he has always guided the faculty members, students and his audience. Professor Dr Tahir Masood said that Professor Mateen-ur-Rehman holds many positions, he was a teacher, the other was that he was a journalist and he was a thinker too. “There were intellectuals who could find solutions even in difficult and complex problems. He was a great man who had no desire for fame and position. He used to sit in the corner to complete his work.”

Professor Dr Nisar Zuberi said that Professor Mateen-ur-Rehman wrote a lot in his short book. He urged that youth should read this book so that they could realize how difficult it was to migrate from their then homes to the newly established motherland. The department’s faculty, students and Professor Mateen Murtaza’s family also attended the book launching ceremony.

Sir Syed University participates in Times Higher Education Impact Rankings

Karachi, July 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) participated in Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking 2021 for the first time and was able to feature among the 36 universities of Pakistan in the overall ranking. This ranking bear testimony to SSUET’s commitment to sustainable development through quality higher education.

The Impact Ranking evaluation uses carefully calibrated indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons across four broad areas: Research, Stewardship, Outreach and Teaching. The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings measure global universities’ success in delivering the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). University that could provide data on SDG 17 and at least three other SDGs was included in the overall ranking.

Minister for enhancing agriculture, livestock exports

Lahore, July 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Punjab Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development, Sardar Hasnain Bahadur Dareshak has said that the government was focusing on enhancing exports related to livestock and agriculture sectors to China so that the people of the province could take maximum benefits from China Pakistan Economic Corridor. He was addressing the participants of a training workshop organized jointly by Punjab University Institute of Quality and Technology Management and South Asian Standardization (Chengdu) Research Centre. Training session was attended by leading Entrepreneurs.

Addressing the participants of the workshop, the minister appreciated Institute of Quality and Technology Management and South Asian Standardization (Chengdu) Research Centre for engaging top agriculture and livestock products exporters from Pakistan to increase Pakistan’s share in China’s agriculture and livestock related imports. The minister assured IQTM Director Dr. Muhammad Usman Awan that feedback provided by the participants of the training will be used to devise strategies in the province as the Punjab government was committed to make CPEC related projects “a success story”.

Dr. Muhammad Usman Awan in his remarks assured the participants that all guidance related to standardization and import regulations will be provided to the entrepreneurs in Pakistan, so that Pakistani agriculture and livestock products may make significant entry into the world’s largest populated country, China. Opening ceremony was also attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mazhar and Faculty of Quality and Industrial Systems Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shafiq.
