Islamabad, November 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Biological Sciences, Fculty of Basic and Applied Sciences (FBAS), International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with the Comasts University Islamabad (CUI) organized a 2-Days Hand-on Training Workshop on Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Data Analysis on 27th and 28th of October in female campus IIUI. The purpose of this workshop was to get a deeper understanding of Next Generation Sequencing, the modern high throughput technology for Genome analysis.
Dr. Asif Mir, Chairman of Department of Biological Sciences and Dr. Shaheen Shahzad, in charge Department were the main organizer of the workshop. On the first day, Dr Waseem Haider, Assistant Professor, Comasts University Islamabad and CEO of Next Generation Solutions (NGS) gave an overview of NGS and briefed the participants about different Next Generation Sequencing technologies. On the day 2, Hands-on practice on Data Analysis in Galaxy, Alignment in Bowtie, Quantification using python scripting were done by the participants. Variant calling using samtools were also briefed by Dr Waseem Haider.
In the closing remarks Prof. Dr Irfan Khan, Dean FBAS appreciated the efforts of the Dr. Waseem Haider and his team, Dr. Asif Mir and Dr Shaheen Shehzad and thanked them for this highly informative workshop. Appreciation shield was presented to guests and certificates were distributed among the participants.
