Lahore, October 12, 2017 (PPI-OT): The Department of Environmental Sciences of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore observed “International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction” here on Thursday in City Campus Lahore. The Society for Conservation of Environment and Nature (SCEN) arranged walk and seminar to mark the day to create awareness regarding the measures to be taken in order to cop up with natural disasters issues.
UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha led the walk while UVAS Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Dean Faculty of Biosciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Chairman Department of Environmental Sciences Dr Saif-ur-Rehman Kashif and a number of students and faculty members participated in the event.
Later in seminar, Muhammad Riaz Chief Meteorologist Flood Forecasting Division Lahore delivered an awareness lecture to UVAS students; in which he spoke about the introduction of natural disasters, their different categories and explanatory discussion on basic principles of initiation of different natural disasters. He also talked about the technologies which are currently deployed in the world to reduce the impacts of all natural disasters and its implementations in Japan regarding earthquake resistant buildings and high level of public awareness about personal safety in case of earthquake.
