UVAS International Conference on Health Security starts

Lahore, March 14, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Department of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) and under the umbrella of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) arranged two-day International Conference on Health Security (ICHS) at Flatties Hotal Lahore.

Federal Minister of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Mr Ahsan Iqbal presided over the inaugural session of the conference while Advisor Higher Education Commission (CPEC) Lt Gen (R) Muhammad Asghar, Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab Muhammad Masood Anwar, UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (SI), Vice-Chancellor University of Education Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Member Production Sector Wing Planning and Development Board Punjab Aslam Jawed, Former Advisor Health Suhail Saqlain, Director General CPEC (HEC) Dr Safdar Ali Shah, Organizing Secretary ICHS Conference Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Former UVAS Vice-Chancellors Prof Dr Manzoor Ahmad and Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz while renowned veterinary and medical practitioners, scholars, researchers, academicians experts from different countries, including Korea, China, Saudi Arabia, UAE, USA and all over the Pakistan are participating physically and virtually in ICHS. Earlier Mr Ahsan Iqbal along with Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad and other dignitaries inaugurated the conference.

Addressing the audience in the inauguration ceremony, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal stressed on the adoption of innovative modern technologies and practices to boost livestock sector in Pakistan. He said it is direly needed to enhance milk production through innovative research and proper farm management. He said academia should work with industry to implement its innovative ideas. He said it is necessary to focus on enhancing our agriculture production and export of livestock, dairy and poultry products to other countries. He said our country has been badly affected due to climate change, even last year our poor livestock farming community faced heavy economic losses (animals, crops and houses) due to heavy flood. He hoped that through this conference recommendation will be developed by experts which will be key to making strategies/policies for a batter future. He congratulated UVAS and its leadership on arranging such an informative conference to address health related issues.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that conference focuses on zoonosis, rabies disease, climate change environment, food security and safety, water scarcity and management, stunting and food wasting, human health and trade facilitation, etc. He said temperature is rising alarmingly, glaciers are melting fast and we face flood disasters almost every year in Pakistan. He said water scarcity is turning into a big crisis and the River Ravi is almost dry and probably the most polluted in the world. He said we are facing with twin challenges of food security and safety and our agriculture production has almost become stagnant but our population is growing with the same pace.

He mentioned malnutrition, stunting in school going children and food wasting are significantly higher in our country even in spite of this alarming situation, how do we expect our kids and youth become useful citizens for their homeland. He said UVAS played a vital role in the fight against Corona pandemic, established a BSL 3 diagnostic lab, tested over seven lakh Corona samples and helped in identifying and tracking the spread of the virus, enabling authorities to control its spread. He also said that UVAS played an active role in flood relief activities during last year and our volunteer teams comprised of students who performed relief activities in all the four provinces in transparent manners.

Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said that livestock is the major source of nutrition in Pakistan so it is direly needed to provide maximum vaccination and treatment facilities to poor livestock farming community at their door steps. Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani presented the vote of thanks. Lt Gen (R) Muhammad Asghar said that there are ample opportunities in CPEC for business, working together with Chinese to learn from each other experiences and knowledge. The Secretary Livestock said that there are many challenges in Pakistan like nutrition to cater the needs for growing population in Pakistan, climate change, foot and mouth disease, food safety and security, meat export and conference will be beneficial for making policies, which will be key to address such issues in Pakistan.

The purpose of the conference was to align with one health principle of inter relationship between animal, soil and environment. Employing an interdisciplinary approach involving animal scientist, geneticist, nutritionist, environmentalist, animal welfares’, animal virologist and other health related fields of study to assess and apply objective methods to optimize the wellbeing of man, animal and its environment. Theme of the conference is health matters and it is focused on activities required to minimize the danger and impact of acute public health events that endanger people health across all geographical boundaries. The conference is consisting of 10 technical sessions, poster competition while stalls have also been set up by industry partners.

Weeklong Spring Festival-2023 begins at UVAS

Lahore, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): 10th Spring Festival 2023 began at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore here on Monday. On the first day, different competitions of Azaan and Hifz ul Quran, Nutrimania, Crescent Fun Villa and Science Panther were arranged by the UVAS Senior Tutor Office.

In Hifzul Quran competition, Muhammad Waqar (Institute of Pharmaceutical Science), Hafiz Muhammad Shakir (Mphil Epidemology), Umama Iqbal (Human Nutrition and Dietetics), Ayshah Kanwel (Mphil Medicine) won the 1st positions in categories of Quran-e-Pak part (1-10) and (1-30). In Azaan competition, Hafiz Muhammad Shakir (Mphil Epidemology) won 1st position, Nouman Hameed (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) got 2nd position while Zain-ul-Abdin from (Institute of Pharmaceutical Science) stood on 3rd position.

Qari Abdul Ghaffar Daharvee, Qari Zeeshan Hanif Qadri and Qari Muhammad Umar were chief guests on the occasion and gave away shields to the Azaan and Hifz-ul-Quran contest winners while Principal Students Affair Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf and Prof Dr Asim Aslam and number of students were present in the ceremony. Students from various departments participated in these competitions. Similar competition also held at other Campuses of UVAS.

UVAS inks MoU with College of Veterinary Medicine, Seoul National University of Korea for academic and scientific cooperation

Lahore, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore signed a memorandum of understanding with College of Veterinary Medicine, Seoul National University Republic of Korea for academic and scientific cooperation to conduct scientific and academic exchange through collaboration.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (SI) and Prof Dr Joon-Seok Chae from College of Veterinary Medicine, Seoul National University Republic of Korea signed a MoU in a ceremony held at City Campus. Earlier, Prof Dr Joon-Seok Chae visited various department and lab of UVAS City campus including Anatomy and Histology, Biosafety level-3 lab, Meat Science and Technology, Pet Centre, Quality Operation Lab and Outdoor Hospital etc and he reviewed UVAS treatment and disease diagnostics facilities for animals.

Under the MoU, both parties will exchange of faculty for research, imparting scientific knowledge and other collaborative activities. They will exchange their faculty member to participate in conferences, symposium, workshops and seminars. They will start jointly research projects on mutual interest related to ticks and tick-borne diseases, especially for collecting and providing samples of such ticks and blood from host animals and share result with each other.

UVAS inks MoU with Intervac for jointly working to help industry and academia in achieving maximum potential

Lahore, March 10, 2023 (PPI-OT): The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore signed a memorandum of understanding with Intervac Pvt, Ltd for jointly working to help industry and academia in achieving maximum potential and self-reliance on the creative scientific approach. UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (SI) and Intervac Chief Executive Officer Mr Ishfaq Ahmad Khan signed a MoU in a ceremony held at City Campus.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmed said that UVAS is in top five university of Pakistan who have strong linkages with academia and industry for the promotion of quality of education and research as well as local products. He said that UVAS is a pure professional university which producing trained graduate every year. He shared mostly well-known poultry, dairy, food and meat industries owner are graduated from UVAS and most of them are the members of UVAS syndicate and board of studies. Representatives of Intervac vow to join hand with UVAS scientists on vaccine production, research and development (R and D) in near future.

Under the MoU, both parties will promote and strengthen cooperation and provide a platform for activities in the relevant field for vaccine development, commercialization, technical trainings and internships. They will share their knowledge, experiences, best practices, methodologies to students and experts for their capacity building. Both parties will promote faculty, experts and students to participate in conferences, symposium, workshops and seminars and jointly work on research projects related to vaccine development for livestock and poultry. They also explore opportunities to identify industry specific trainings.

19th Annual Sports Day held at UVAS

Lahore, March 09, 2023 (PPI-OT): The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore organised its 19th Annual Sports Day in its City Campus Sports Ground. Member Production Sector Wing Planning and Development Board Government of Punjab Mr Aslam Jawed along with UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad inaugurated sports contests in the morning while UVAS Former Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science/Director Advanced Studies (Retired) Prof Dr Sarwar Khan was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony in the evening.

Students from the City Campus Lahore, Ravi Campus Pattoki, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Jhang and Khan Bahadar Choudhry Mushtaq Ahmed College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Narowal participated in sports fixtures which continued till late evening. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Mr Aslam Jawaid said that it is best opportunities for students to take part in such sports activities which is key way for grooming their personalities.

In the concluding ceremony, Prof Dr Sarwar Khan appreciated UVAS Sports Board efforts especially in getting UVAS ranked 4th among public sector universities in HEC national sports ranking. He lauded UVAS students for their outstanding performance in various games. He said participation of students in co-curricular activities in sports is very important alongside curricular activities for their grooming.

While addressing the staff at the cake-cutting ceremony, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad congratulated all the students who actively participated in different competitions and won positions. He said UVAS will establish wrestling academy with the financial assistance of HEC, state of the art swimming pool and Resource Center as per international standards. He also lauded the UVAS Sports Board for arranging such a mega sports event in a befitting manner.

The various contests featuring annual sports day included final races of 800, 200, 100 meter for boys and girls, three-leg race, javelin throw, shot-put, long jump, triple jump, discus throw, tug of war, chaati race, martial art presentation/gymnastic show, etc. Mr Tasawwur from CVAS Jhang won the title of Fastest Man of UVAS while Mr Hasnain Khalid from Food Science and Technology won the title of “Mr UVAS” in body building contest. Tahir Fareed and Aliza Moon both from Medical Lab Technology students were declare the best athletes of UVAS among male and female categories.

Male DVM 4th year with 74 points and female Zoology team with earned 58 points won the general trophies from Ravi Campus. MPhil and PhD male team with 70 points won general trophy and Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences female team earned 74 point won general trophies.

Prof Dr Sarwar Khan along with VC Prof Nasim Ahmad distributed general trophies, medals, shields and blazers among the winners of all contests. Earlier, Director Sports Rana Amjad Iqbal shared the achievements of the UVAS players in various sports competitions held in 2021-22 including volleyball, table tennis, handball, kabaddi, badminton, karate, wushu, rugby, chess, wrestling, weightlifting and bodybuilding, etc. The Chairman Sports Board Rana Muhammad Ayyub, Prof Dr Aftab Anjum and a large number of staff members and students from all campuses of UVAS were present on the occasion.

Former Pakistani Cricketer Mushtaq Ahmad delivered a motivational lecture to UVAS students 

Lahore, May 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Qiraat and Naat Society (QNS) of Senior Tutor Office Society of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore organized a motivational lecture for the betterment of life according to Islamic guidelines on Monday at City Campus Lahore.

Former Pakistani Cricketer / Former Member Pakistan Cricket Team and Bowling Coach Mushtaq Ahmad delivered a detailed lecture to UVAS students while Former Cricketer of Pakistani Team Mr Zulqarnain, Prof Dr Asim Aslam, Senior Tutor Prof Dr Ali Raza Awan, Prof Dr Yasin Tipu and a large number of students were present.
