Construction Work for Shifa Medical Centre Islamabad, Kicks Off

Islamabad, August 12, 2021 (PPI-OT):Construction work of another landmark project of Shifa International Hospitals Ltd., known as Shifa Medical Centre Islamabad (Pvt.) Ltd. has begun in F-11 sector of the capital city. The ground-breaking ceremony featured representation from Interloop, HBL and Shifa Family who gathered at the site for Dua. Dr. Habib-ur-Rahman (Chairman, SIHL), Dr. Manzoor H. Qazi (CEO, SIHL), Mr. Muhammad Zahid (Chairman and CEO, SMCI) and Mr. Musadaq Zulqarnain (Chairman and CEO, Interloop Holdings) spoke on the occasion and reiterated their respective organizations’ resolve to build SMCI in scheduled time and make the project a success like earlier endeavours of the two organizations.

SMCI is a subsidiary of SIHL for which Interloop group and Shifa Family have joined hands. Designed in a purpose-built building, SCMI will be offering quality outpatient services, diagnostic facility and ambulatory surgery care to the population of fast-sprawling capital city within thirty months. The Centre shall also be offering inpatient services and 24/7 emergency care. SMCI’s joint venture partners, bankers, SIHL consultants, shareholders and members of top management also graced the heart-warming ceremony and Dua.

First Shifa Orthodontic Conference 2021

Islamabad, August 12, 2021 (PPI-OT):Shifa College of Dentistry (Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University) organized the First Shifa International Orthodontic Conference on 21st and 22nd May 2021 which was attended by more than 300 online participants across the globe, in close partnership with Pakistan Association of Orthodontists. The conference was organized by Prof. Dr. Anwar Ali Shah (Principal, Shifa College of Dentistry) and promoted by Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Khan (VC, STMU) and Dr. M. Amir (Dean, Faculty Health Sciences) whose continuous support was what made the conference a huge success.

The two-day conference was the 1st of its kind in the country where some of the most outstanding experts in orthodontics from around the globe came together to share their knowledge and expertise at academic, clinical and research levels in the said field. Prof. Jonathan Sandler, Dr. Alison Murray, Dr. Andrew Di Biase, Dr. Chris Laspos, Dr. Simon Littlewood, Prof. Martyne Cubourne, Dr. Tony Ireland, Dr. Jayne Harrison, Prof. Ewa Czochrowska and Dr. John Scholey also participated in the conference virtually. The conference featured specialized topics best suited to the field of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Healthcare Quality and Administration Program conducted by Shifa International Hospitals Limited

Islamabad, August 12, 2021 (PPI-OT):The second Batch of Healthcare Quality and Administration Program commenced on 16th July 2021 with an introductory session. SIH has been conducting the multi-tier Training for Healthcare Quality and Administration Program (HQAP) for healthcare management professionals. The program is based on Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) curriculum and designed to enable participants to improve their core quality and healthcare administration skills.

Patient Safety and International Patient Safety Goals (IPSGs)

Core Components of a Medication Safety Program

Strategic Leadership Direction and Planning

Role of Strategic Planning in Healthcare Quality

HQAP concluded on 31st July, 2021 with a post-test to assess the effectiveness of the program. Dr. Zeeshan Bin Ishtiaque (Chief Medical Officer, SIH), Mr. Taimoor Shah (Chief Operating Officer, SIH), Dr. Abdul Wahab Hassan (Director, Quality Assurance, SIH), and others were among the trainers. Certificates were distributed among both external and internal participants and trainers during the closing ceremony conducted by Mr. Amir Khisro (Manager, Training and Development HR and D, SIH). External participants included: Dr. Areej Neyazi, Dr. Sadaf Khalid, Dr. Mohib Ullah and Mr. Naveed Richard from Dr. Akbar Niazi Teaching Hospital, Islamabad.

1st Cochlear Implantation Procedure performed at Shifa International Hospital

Islamabad, August 12, 2021 (PPI-OT):The First Cochlear Implantation Procedure was performed at Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad on 11 July 2021. The procedure was carried out by Dr. Azeem Aslam (Consultant, ENT Surgeon) along with a multidisciplinary team comprising of Audiologists, Anesthesiologists, Technicians and Nursing Staff. Cochlear Implantation involves surgically placing a small and complex electronic device that helps provide a sense of sound to a person who is unable to hear or faces extreme difficulty in hearing. Congratulations Shifa BMT Team for Achieving Milestone of performing 300 Bone Marrow Transplants

Islamabad, June 29, 2021 (PPI-OT): A ceremony was recently arranged to commemorate the completion of over 300 Bone Marrow/ Stem Cell Transplants at Shifa International Hospital Islamabad. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ayaz Mir, Director BMT Program, acknowledged the efforts and contribution of the whole multidisciplinary team for achieving this milestone.

Dr. Ayaz Mir along with the core BMT team members; Maj. Gen ® Tariq Mahmood Satti, Consultant Hematologist and BMT Specialist and Dr. Azhar Shafi, Consultant Hematologist, mentioned that the Shifa BMT program is the most affordable program in the country which has been managing most challenging cases in the region including high-risk malignancies (Leukemia, Lymphoma, Myeloma, and Germ Cell Tumors) and benign hematologic diseases (Aplastic Anemia, Thalassemia, PNH, etc.) by performing Autologous and Allogeneic (fully matched and half-matched HAPLO) transplants.

Dr. M. H. Qazi, Chief Executive Officer, congratulated consultants, nursing, medical and paramedical teams, technical and support teams on completion of over 300 BMT transplants with excellent results with a success rate comparable to International Standards. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Zeeshan Bin Ishtiaque, Chief Medical Officer, recognized and acknowledged the contribution made by the program pioneers, i.e., Dr. Kamran Rasheed and the rest of the team, and reiterated to further expand the program to benefit larger patient communities.

Shifa inaugurates its 4D CT Simulator Scanner for Cancer Treatment

Islamabad, June 29, 2021 (PPI-OT): Dr. Manzoor H. Qazi, Chief Executive Officer at Shifa International Hospital inaugurated a 4D Simulator scanner for cancer treatment which is installed in Radiation Oncology Department, SIH. The ribbon-cutting was followed by a welcome speech by Dr. Asif Masood, Head of Radiation Oncology Department, SIH, whereby he thanked the administration for their contribution and support.

He explained that the inclusion of this newly acquired 4D Simulator scanner will provide the next level of precision radiotherapy assistance in cancer treatment. Currently, the radiation oncology department is providing 2DRT (Two-dimensional Radiation Therapy), 3DCRT (Three-dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy), IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy), Intracavitary and Interstitial Brachytherapy.

Dr. Zeeshan Bin Ishtiaque (Chief Medical Officer, SIH), Mr. Taimoor Shah (Chief Operating Officer, SIH), and other officials and consultants were also present at the ceremony. Dr. Manzoor H. Qazi lauded the efforts of the Radiation Oncology Department team to acquire this new technological 4D CT Simulator Scanner and other latest and computerized systems for delivering high-class services to cancer patients. He assured that the hospital will continue to strive for advancement and improvement in services and equipment to the patients.

Dr. Muhammad Ali Afridi who is the pioneer of the Radiation Oncology Department in Shifa International Hospital, in his concluding remarks said that the oncology department rightly takes pride as the pioneer center that trained many medical physicists and technologists who are now serving cancer patients in different hospitals in Pakistan as well as abroad. Dr. Ali vowed his resolve to continue doing so in the future as well.
