IIUI’s Hassan Ali Kasi Leading Largest Taraweeh Gathering in USA

Islamabad, March 26, 2023 (PPI-OT): Hassan Ali Kasi, a student of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIU) and a winner of the World Recitation Competition is leading the largest Taraweeh gathering in the US. Hassan who is a Quetta born IIU student has already led Taraweeh in Germany and now he has been specially invited in Chicago to lead the largest Taraweeh of this year. Hassan Ali is student of BS Usuluddin at IIUI.

Hassan Ali Kasi who is studying at IIUI hails from Balochistan, Pakistan. He has won the international Quran recitation competition in Afghanistan, competing with 25 countries, is leading America’s largest Taraweeh gathering. Kasi was eight years old when he began to earn recognition for his memorization and Qira’at skills and memorized the Quran at early age. He learned Tajwid from his father and recitation styles from his uncle. Kasi finished college in Quetta and later moved to Islamabad to continue Islamic studies at International Islamic University Islamabad.

ORIC Holds Workshop Titled “Funding Your Research: Writing Winning Proposal”

Islamabad, March 15, 2023 (PPI-OT):A workshop titled “Funding your research: A workshop on writing winning proposal” was organized by the Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Worthy President IIUI, Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi was the chief guest of this workshop who appreciated the efforts of the offices of Vice President Research and Enterprise (R and E) and ORIC, saying that research is the top priority and such activities are necessary. He said we are working to make both research and academic excellence basic recognitions of this university. He opined that finding opportunities for research and finally clinching this hunt needs training and guidance and this activity is a constructive step in this regard.

He stressed upon the university researchers to remain updated about the requirements of contemporary research funding as it will help in bringing more research funding to the institution as well as it will also be a prime source of improvement in university rankings. Dr. Hammad Omer, a common wealth scholar and Dr. Farida Anjum, Director Research and Innovation Division of Higher Education Commission delivered lectures on the opportunities available for funding with Higher Education Commission and other national, International organizations. They discussed in detail about the procedures and guidelines to win various projects and funding.

Dr. Hammad Omer talked about Writing Winning Proposals and highlighted the essentials of research proposal, common pitfalls to avoid, improvement stages and techniques during a writing and before the submission. Moreover, he presented A Case Study: Self Experience of his research titled: “How Holy Quran Memorization Affects Our Memory” which was appreciated by the audience. Dr. Farida Anjum, Director (Research and Innovation Division) HEC enlightened about the Funding Opportunities in this regard, she presented a comprehensive information about HEC Competitive Research Grants and Evaluation Criteria.

The participants got enough knowledge on the subject and they hope from ORIC to arrange similar workshops/activities in future. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Vice President Research and Enterprise Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, VP (R and E) expressed the gratitude to the worthy President for his continuous support for uplifting the Research-based activities at IIUI. He informed that the office of Research and Enterprise has planned such activities to train IIU young researchers. He encouraged the participants to engage themselves and utilize their abilities and expertise in the fields of research, innovation and commercialization.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amir, Director ORIC briefed about the establishment of ORIC Forum which initiated its activities under the patronage of the Vice President (Research and Enterprise). The workshop was attended by the 60 nominated faculty members and researchers of all faculties, institutes, academies and centers of IIUI and around 18 representatives of different universities/higher education institutions participated online. At the end souvenirs were presented to the respected resource person by VP (R and E).

Lecture on “Meeting of East and West in Modern Western Sufi Autobiography” held at New Campus

Islamabad, March 15, 2023 (PPI-OT): Halqa-i-Khayal, a literary forum of Faculty of language and Literature and Faculty of Usuluddin of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), jointly organized a lecture on “Meeting of East and West in Modern Western Sufi Autobiography” at Dr. Zafar Ishaq Ansari Conference Room, IIUI.

The Guest Speaker of the event was Prof. Dr. Marcia Hermansen (Director of Islamic World Studies Program) from Loyola University, Chicago. Whereas Dean, Faculty of Usuluddin Prof. Dr. Taj Afsar, Dean Faculty of Languages and Literature Dr Najeeba Arif, faculty members and research scholars and more than 70 students from both faculties attended the lecture.

Prof. Dr. Marcia Hermansen delivered a very interesting and informative lecture on modern western Sufi autobiography and post millennial Sufi narrative. University Students and faculty members participated and interacted with the speaker during the question answer session. Prof. Dr. Taj Afsar delivered his presidential address. The session was concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Najeeba Arif.

It is pertinent to mention Halqa-i Khayal is a literary and academic forum. It was established by Prof. Dr. Najeeba Arif within the Faculty of Languages and Literature (IIUI) for the faculty members and students. It hosts fortnightly / monthly sessions on various topics of contemporary relevance to culture, literature, and linguistics, etc.

The Forum invites writers and intellectuals from relevant fields particularly from within arts, humanities and social sciences to deliver lectures and talks. The basic purpose of Halqa-i Khayal is to create a learning environment in the Faculty of Languages and Literature to help students engage with the established scholars in their areas and directly benefit from them.

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Organizes FeteX’23

Islamabad, March 14, 2023 (PPI-OT): FETEX’23 organized by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DECE), Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) commenced here at the new campus on Tuesday. At FETEX’23 students are provided a platform to showcase their abilities and talents to demonstrate their skills practically apart from their academic activities at campus.

Prof. Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Vice President (A and F), IIUI inaugurated the event. In his speech he said that the event is of a great importance as it will be a source of improvement in varsity’s ranking at global level as well as it has provided a platform to students to shine by showcasing skills. Referring to the vision of IIUI President, Dr. Jumani vowed that the university administration will leave no stone unturned by providing such platforms to the students to enhance their capabilities. He added that the Faculty of Engineering and Technology is one of the top faculties at national level while it’s our utmost desire to bring it to the top at international level.

Prof. Dr. Mansoor Akbar Kundi lauded role of the IIUI’s administration for supporting the academic and extracurricular events like FETEX for engineering students. Dr. Shahid Akram, Chairman DECE, FET, IIUI Dr. Shahid Akram urged students to participate in the event with full spirit. He added that that the two days’ event is specially designed for the engineering students to portray their talents in FETEX. He added that the event is organized by the department every year as it brings numerous interesting activities including sports and technical competition like Line Robotics, Speed Wiring, PCB Designing, Speed performing Soft Skills, Content Creation, MATLAB Guru, E-Gaming, Mini Cricket, Futsal, Badminton, Arm Wrestling, Table Tennis, Tug of War, Project Exhibition, Qirat Competition and many other activities.

Dr. Shahid congratulated the In-Charge FETEX’23, Dr. Tayyab Ali for making all arrangements at faculty indoor and outdoor with coordination of faculty members and students on this occasion. The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amir, Director, ORIC, senior faculty members and a large number of Engineering Students of the department. It is pertinent to mention here the entire event was sponsored by IIUI Alumni by establishing the stalls of the companies. The sponsoring organizations include CORVIT Institute, MEC, K and E Solar, Karachi Electronics (KE) and Galaxy Enclave. The event also included seminars and workshops headed by professionals from different firms and institutes, who put light on career counselling and ways to achieve desired goals regarding area of study, that helped students get motivated to achieve their future destinations.

FETEX’23 will be concluded with distributions of certificates along with the cash prize money and shields to the winners and runner-up’s, tomorrow on 15th of March, 2023.

National Workshop On Flexible Energy System: Technology Perspective from Materials to Circuits Held at IIUI

Islamabad, March 14, 2023 (PPI-OT): A National Workshop on “Flexible Energy System: Technology Perspective from Materials to Circuits” was jointly organized by the Department of Physics and Centre of Advanced Electronics and Photovoltaic Engineering (CAEPE) at International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). Workshop was sponsored by the prestigious ICRG Pak-UK Education Gateway Project titled as “Investigation in advanced Energy Harvesters and Energy storage devices for Self-Powered Flexible Energy Systems (FleEnSys)”.

The Chief Guest of the event was the Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation, Prof. Dr. Shahid Mehmood Baig, the distinguished researcher serving as the Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation was the Chief Guest of the event. While addressing the participants of the workshop, he congratulated the organizing team for holding such an expedient, timely and academic event in the backdrop of an international grant. Moreover, he appreciated all the invited Speakers for delivering such amazing talks on smart Energy systems.

He also encouraged the students and young researchers to collaborate with Pakistan Science foundation to do meaningful research based on societal outcomes. He also highlighted the importance of scientific research and development for the success of any nation. Prof. Baig also lauded the vision of the President, IIUI which brought the forward-looking approach, initiatives and tangible outcomes for the University.

During the Concluding Ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Shuja Syed, Vice President R and E and Founding Executive Director, Centre for Advanced Electronics and Photovoltaic Engineering (CAEPE), IIUI who also happens to be the Co-Grantee in this international grant delivered a talk on Ideas to Innovation: Industry 4.0 with Self-Powered Energy Systems. He summarized the recent advances and requirements of industry 4.0 Revolution with the perspective of energy systems.

Almost 600 participants, including Faculty members, representatives from industries and scientific organizations, Ph.D. Scholars, Graduate Students have attended this Workshop drawn from across the country. Dr. Adeel Asghar, Post-doctoral fellow in the project conducted the event whereas Dr. Shaista Shehzada, Chairperson, Department of Physics, welcomed the participants followed by the technical proceedings of the workshop. Invited Speakers of the Workshop delivered very informative talks on the recent advances in Flexible Energy Systems. Dr. Imran Murtaza, who is also the grantee of the ICRG Project gave an overview of the Project and provided the latest findings as an outcome of the grant.

Dr. Carlos Gracia Nunez, from University of West Scotland UK shared his collaborative work with the team IIUI on the smart materials that can be considered for self-powered devices. Dr. Gul Hassan from CAEPE was focused on the wearable and printed electronics and their optimized fabrication. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sultan from Kohsar University Murree, delivered a very informative talk on the development of solution processed Semiconductor for Smart Energy Harvesting.

Dr Mashkoor Ahmad from PINSTECH provided an insight regarding some recent progress in the domain of advanced Energy Storage. Prof. Dr. Javed Iqbal Saggu from Quaid-e-Azam University shed some light on the recent Electrode Materials development for smart energy storage systems. Dr. Hassan Saif for FAST has highlighted a very smart and recently invented Mechanical and vibration energy Harvester called “Triboelectric Nano generator” and the role of circuit designing in this domain. Dr. Muhammad Irfan Haider from University of Wah explained the strategies to enhance the performance of Perovskite solar cells. At the end of the workshop shields were distributed, by the chief guest among the invited speakers and organizers of the event.

Entrepreneurial Gala 2023 Held at Female Campus

Islamabad, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): Entrepreneurial gala 2023 was held here at the female campus of the International Islamic University (IIU) on Monday. Female student set up food and commercial stalls as they were given an opportunity to start up their businesses. Theme of the Gala was “Women in Business”. Students Advisor Dr. Summiya Chughtai, Provost Dr. Humaira Ashfaq, incharges/chairpersons from various departments visited the stalls and appreciated the efforts of the students.

Dr. Sumaya, apprised that the purpose of the gala is to attract female students to establish their businesses and contribute towards the socio-economic development of society. “Entrepreneurship is not just about starting a business. It is a mind-set that embraces change, innovation, and risk-taking. It is about identifying problems and finding creative solutions to solve them. It is about taking ownership of your ideas and turning them into reality” said Dr. Sumaya. Dr. Humaira Ashfaq said linkage of academia and industry is a prerequisite for a prosperous society. She advised the female students to believe in themselves and devote their lives for the progress of the country.

Speakers of the event opined that women entrepreneurs were full of talent and promoting them was vital so that they could increase exports and play a more effective role in the economic development of the country. The organizers of the event stressed upon the need for training programmes for women entrepreneurs so that they could use online platforms to promote their business at local and international level. Hailing the active participation of female students, speakers of the opening ceremony of the gala said women participation in society and especially their entrepreneurial contribution can help in maintaining a stable and prosperous society.

They pointed out various micro and macro level aspects of women’s contribution in business and entrepreneurship. The event featured embroidered rugs, table runners, furniture, gems and jewellery, clothing for women and children, gardening items, pottery, paintings, footwear and women’s health and hygiene, publications and many other such items.
