Memorandum of Understanding signs between All Pakistan Newspapers Society and Voice of Punjab 

Karachi, May 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):A memorandum of understanding was signed between All Pakistan Newspapers Society and Voice of Punjab here on Friday, at Alhamra, Mall Road. Mumtaz A. Tahir, Chairman Regional Press Committee, APNS and Enem Ali Abbas, Project Director, Voice of Punjab signed the agreement. It was mutually agreed that APNS (Regional Press Committee) and VOP (Voice of Punjab) will be the strategic partners till year ending March 2023 to benefit different regional areas of Punjab.

Speaking at the occasion, Mumtaz A. Tahir said, “Both organizations shall arrange seminars, workshops and events on media and related topics to initiate a fruitful dialogue for an implementable media expansion model. Regional Press and Voice of Punjab shall work together to promote peace, culture, tourism and patriotism in their respective areas. This joint venture shall facilitate the digital transformation of regional media, including YouTube Channels and other social media assets”.

Enem Ali Abbas said, “VOP shall offer assistance to the regional press in establishing the digital frontline to meet the latest media standards and trends. VOP shall offer strategic assistance in expanding reach and scope of regional press in the country, particularly Punjab. It is a great achievement that member regional publications of APNS shall offer internships to media graduates and other interested students as and when recommended by VOP.”

As per the MoU, both the organizations shall work in unison to promote art and crafts, food, music, performing arts and related segments in the targeted regions. Both organizations shall work together to promote print journalism and polish/groom young journalists while inculcating journalistic ethics and values. It is pertinent to mention here that member publications of APNS shall also offer jobs to bright interns who fulfill their criteria.

APNS welcomed Mr. Sharjeel Inam Memon on assuming the charge of Information Department as Minister Government of Sindh 

Karachi, April 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):The APNS has welcomed Mr. Sharjeel Inam Memon on assuming the charge of Information Department as Minister Government of Sindh. Mr. Sarmad Ali, President and Mrs. Nazafreen Saigol Lakhani, Secretary General of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society have congratulated Mr. Sharjeel on appointment for the second term as Minister Information Sindh and hoped that under his stewardship, the Sindh Information would protect and safeguard the freedom of press and strengthen relations of the provincial government with the print media.

The APNS office bearers expressed their confidence that during the tenure of Mr. Sharjeel Memon the interests of media will be safeguarded and actions will be taken for the development of print media in the province. They requested that the problems faced by Sindh based publications including payment of long outstanding dues and transparency in release of provincial govt ads be addressed on priority during his tenure.

All Pakistan Newspapers Society expresses profound concern on the murder attack on Col. Amir in daylight

Karachi, April 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The APNS strongly condemns the attack on life of Col. (Retd.) Amir, GM Admin of Daily Pakistan, Islamabad and Roze News, Islamabad. Mr. Sarmad Ali, President and Mrs. Nazafreen Saigol Lakhani, Secretary General of All Pakistan Newspapers Society in a statement, have expressed their profound concern on the murder attack on Col. Amir in daylight. It is highly regrettable that the Police Administration has not yet caught the culprits who fled away after the attack.

The APNS Office Bearers have stated that attacks on media persons are rapidly increasing and remained unchecked despite protests by media organizations. The APNS urged upon the Federal Capital Administration and the Police authorities to provide fool proof security to media persons and media outlets and take up the matter seriously to ensure that the culprits are brought to book without delay.

Annual Meeting of All Pakistan Newspapers Society General Council held 

Karachi, March 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Annual Meeting of the APNS General Council held on March 26, 2022 at APNS House, Karachi unanimously elected Sarmad Ali as President, Jamil Ather as Senior Vice President, Shahab Zuberi as Vice President, Ms. Nazafreen Saigol Lakhani as Secretary General, Mohsin Bilal as Joint Secretary and Muhammad Awais Khushnood as Finance Secretary of the Society.

The AGM was held under the chairmanship of Sarmad Ali, President. The Council unanimously approved the report of the Executive Committee for the year 2021-2022 as well as the Annual Accounts of the Society for the year 2021. The General Council attended by 151 members from across the country, formed an Election Commission headed by Dr. Waqar Yousuf Azeemi with Nasir Daad Baloch and Safdar Ali Khan as members. The Election Commission conducted the election of the Executive Committee for the year 2022-23.

Following dailies and magazines were elected un-opposed to the Executive Committee of the APNS for the next tenure:

Daily Aghaz, Daily Business Recorder, Daily Deynat, Daily Dawn, Daily Jasarat, Daily Jiddat (Khi), Daily Abtak, Daily Dunya, Daily Jang, Daily Khabrain, Daily Pakistan, Daily Tijarat, Nawa-i-Waqt, Daily Ausaf, Daily Sahafat, Daily Awam (Quetta), Daily Mashriq (Quetta), Daily Mashriq (Peshawar), Daily Wahdat, Daily Kawish, Daily Kaleem Daily Aftab (Multan), Daily Paigham, Daily Business Report, Daily City 42, Daily Pakistan Observer, Daily Halchal and Daily Sayadat. Monthly Dastak, Monthly Naey Ufaq, Monthly Centerline, Fortnightly Ibrat Magazine and Weekly Nikhar were elected on periodical seats.

The President, Sarmad Ali announced Ms. Rameeza Majid Nizami MD Nawa-e-Waqt Group as special representative of APNS to handle Federal matters. The new Executive Committee elected Mrs. Zahida Abbasi of Daily Nau Sijj, Karachi on woman – publishers seat and co-opted Monthly Naya Rukh on periodical seat.

The newly elected Executive Committee appreciated the performance of the Election Commission. The members unanimously appreciated the efforts of Mr. Hameed Haroon for the reconciliation in the ranks of the newspaper industry and expressed their full confidence in his efforts.

The General Council strongly condemned the use of Federal government advertisements as a tool to strangulate the voice of dissent and urged upon the Federal Government to withdraw the ban imposed on certain newspapers. The General Council also noted that the Federal Government has curtailed the release of advertisements to regional newspapers and periodical publications and demanded that the regional quota be observed in letter and spirit in the release of Federal Government advertisements.

Earlier, the Extra-Ordinary General Council of the Society held a meeting in the morning and adopted Resolution to amend Article 1 Article 8 of the Articles of Association. The Annual General Council elected Dr. Waqar Yousuf Azeemi and Mr. Riaz Ahmed Mansuri as member emeritus in acknowledgment of their 40 years services for the newspaper industry.

Extra-Ordinary General Council and Annual General Council of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society will meet on Saturday, March 26, 2022 

Karachi, March 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Extra-Ordinary General Council and Annual General Council of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society will meet on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. respectively at APNS House, Gulistan Jauhar, Karachi, stated a press release of the APNS. Ms. Nazafreen Siagol Lakhani, Secretary General, All Pakistan Newspapers Society has announced that the Extra-Ordinary General Council will consider a resolution for amendment in the Articles of Association of the APNS.

The Annual General Council will discuss the conditions prevailing in the newspaper industry and take decisions to address the problems faced by the member publications and will finalize its recommendations on the issues pertaining to the Govt. – Press relations, press laws and the future of the industry. The members will consider and adopt the report of the Executive Committee for the year 2021-2022, approve audit report for Annual Accounts for the year 2021 and elect members to the Executive Committee for the year 2022-2023. The new Executive Committee will elect its office bearers for the new term. The meetings of the General Councils will be attended by full members only. The Secretary General, APNS has requested publishers of full member publications to attend the above Council meetings positively.

All Pakistan Newspapers Society expresses profound grief and sorrow over sad demise of veteran editor and former President, APNS, Mr. Farhad Zaidi 

Karachi, March 11, 2022 (PPI-OT):The APNS expresses its profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of veteran editor and former President, APNS, Mr. Farhad Zaidi. Mr. Sarmad Ali, President, Mrs. Nazafreen Saigol Lakhani, Secretary General and other office bearers of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society have stated that late Mr. Zaidi was a poet, scholar and also served as Managing Director, PTV.

They paid rich tribute to the role and services of Mr. Farhad Zaidi for the development and promotion of newspaper industry in the country. The APNS office bearers expressed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that Almighty Allah may rest the departed soul in eternal peace.
