Fair distribution of resources prerequisite of social justice: Altaf Shakoor

Karachi, November 01, 2017 (PPI-OT):Regretting a futile exercise of National Assembly parliamentary committee in which it was decided to keep the seats of national assembly intact at 272, Pasban e Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor said a fair distribution of national resources is the prerequisite of social justice.

He asked: “What is the utility of holding the new census when the national resources are not being distributed amongst the provinces as per its results.” He said in the census, the population of Karachi has already been deliberately shown less than the actual population of the mega city, which is a grave injustice to the engine of national economy.

He said the parliamentary group meeting only took some eyewash type decisions regarding adjusting a few seats in Punjab, KpK, Balochistan and Islamabad which would not serve the purpose of fair and just distribution of the national resources. He feared that some elements want to get the coming general elections delayed with these tactics. He said if this happens it would sabotage the purpose for which the new census was conducted.

Altaf Shakoor said that our society direly needs justice, for which it is necessary that the national resources should be distributed amongst people on fair basis. He said unless we give people justice and equity, the issue of social unrest and law and order could not be tackled. He said the ad-hoc based steps and policies are leading the country to anarchy. He asked what results have been achieved so far with different policies, options and operations being carried out in the country. He said the feelings of deprivations amongst people would further increase if we failed to give people much-need justice.

He said in the parliamentary committee meeting, the head of the Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Dr Farooq Sattar was also present, but he did not raise the issues related to Karachi, or press the demand of fairness in the initial census results. He said this is a betrayal with the rights of Karachi.

He said those proclaiming themselves as the champions of the Karachi rights should show their seriousness. He said these people so far have paid only lip-service to Karachi and its issues. He said the so-called champions of Karachi rights have already became billionaires but Karachi still has no proper water, no sewerage, no public transport and no other civic facilities, which is a sheer injustice to the people of the mega city.

Altaf Shakoor asked the parties in the national assembly to stop befooling innocent voters and shun their shameful indifference to the plights of common man. He said it is the responsibility of the rulers and political parties’ leadership to take practical steps for doling out social justice to the oppressed and deprived people of Pakistan.
