Dismal state of higher education due to low spending on education: Dr. Ajmal Khan

Karachi, September 10, 2017 (PPI-OT): Youth are the greatest asset of any nation because these young people get higher education and join top slots of the government making policies of the country. Nations focusing adequately on their youth and students are now the leading nations of the world. Youth must be provided latest technologically advanced education and facilities so that they remain sincere to their state and nation.

These views were expressed by Professor Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Khan, Vice Chancellor University of Karachi (KU) speaking at the Inauguration ceremony of HEC recognized journal of department of social work KU. He also launched the department’s website and Khabar Nama Samaji Behbood on the occasion. He lauded the efforts of Professor Dr. Nasreen Aslam Shah for being the dynamic role model for the department of social work and her academic activities in this regard.

“According to the latest reports, only 4 varsities of Pakistan are in the list of top 1000 universities of the world. Last year there were 7 universities and this decline from 7 to 4 varsities depicts the dismal state of higher education in the country. Even India and Iran have 30 and 11 varsities in the list respectively. This dismal state is primarily due to the low education budget since we are spending even lower than Bangladesh and India on education. Higher Education and research needs heavy spending in order to play a role in country’s uplift and knowledge based economy”, said Dr. Ajmal Khan.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr. Nasreen Aslam Shah, Chairperson department of social work KU appreciated the leadership of the Vice Chancellor Dr. Ajmal Khan and said that varsities have a major role to play in the nation’s prosperity and development since the bright brains of the society are nurtured in the university and given training to serve the society and mankind.
